Glad to see you so enthusiastic!

As you may have read in the rules, there are certain general ethics involved with baiting a scammer. You should not use your own phone number/email or anything else that could be traced back to your real identity. I have never done phone baiting myself, but I'm sure other people on this forum knows how.

Also, people here generally don't "burn" the scammer (that is, reveal he is being baited). That could tip them off to be better at avoiding baiting in the future, which we don't want.

Baiting a scammer who knows your real life details is strongly discouraged. You may think that the scammers are bumbling fools (and some are), but many of them are part of organized gangs and they may have contacts in your area, especially if you live in a country with a lot of expats living there (such as the United States or United Kingdom). They also have been known to engage in swatting.

I would recommend making two (for now, you may want more later on) new email accounts: one as your "catcher" (you'll put this email address on the Internet in order to attract scammers), and one that you use to bait. Baiting from your catcher account is unwise, because the account will get cluttered even in the best of times, and lads have been known to sign people up for spam (and occasionally they'll try to get your account shut down). For now, you can look in the surplus forum to get yourself started.

GET A MENTOR. Trust me on this one. Having someone with a lot of experience who can give you one on one direction is an invaluable resource to have. I have some experience with baiting, yet I have a mentor, and he is extremely helpful.

One of the most common problems new baiters face is expecting it to be easy. You might look on the site and see long aafaris and hilarious trophies, but they are the exception and not the rule, ESPECIALLY when you are new. The vast majority of the time, these things do not happen, and they certainly don't happen after only a couple of emails. Your mentor can explain this to you in more detail. Remember, the important thing is to keep the lad busy and to mess with him and waste his time.
