I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but forgive me, I'm new here.
I've been having some trouble with gmail detecting "suspicious activity" on any accounts that I try to set up for scam baiting. I'll make an account, send maybe 3 or 4 emails to some email addresses from Surplus letters, and then gmail will kick me out of my account and make me verify my password.
Has anyone else had these problems and how can I avoid them?
Also, from a purely data perspective, how are they able to detect a pattern so quickly?
It's like, weirdly fast. |

Are you using a proxy or a VPN? |

^ what B8r said. Gmail particularly hates TOR and any VPN/Proxy that gives you a different location IP every time. If you're using VPN try to get one that always allows you to login from the same city. |

No VPN, no Tor, no Proxy, just using Chrome on a Linux computer from my home connection.
As it happens, after sending 3 more emails, gmail has blocked my account yet again and are now asking for a phone number to verify my identity. Do you guys think it's safe to use my real number? I don't know if it's possible for lads to see it or not. |

Do not use your real number. Try using another email service like Yandex. GMX and mail.com are also good free services, however I do not know if they hide IP (perhaps another member would know). |

Mail.com does show IP address. Last time I sent a message to a friend it gave them my IP address in the headers. |

I ended up getting a mail.com account and connecting to outlook.com's web client to obscure my IP.
Thanks for the help guys. |

Showing IP address is not a problem. It points to the location of your ISP server, not the senders location. Unless you access the internet through a 'named server', ie. the companyyou work for, or Holiday Inn etc., you're safe. |

That's true, but I figured that on the off chance a lad decided to actually check the email header for ip and look up my location, that it'd be less suspicious if it came from Microsoft's servers than the isp in my tiny little suburb.
Although, those chances are pretty tiny and now Outlook's giving me grief too, so maybe that extra step is more trouble than it's worth. |

Why not have a look at hushmail.com I think they still do a free service of a couple of alias names, larger you go of course you have to pay. |

this may be a safe alternative too, although it will be difficult to explain when your character is some dimwit who can't figure out how to read emails properly but on the other hand uses this state-of-the-art mail service.
Works safe on your site but works well with any email on the other side.

Although I hate Yahoo mail's interface and performance, I use it for all of my baiting. My catcher account is different provider.
I've had no account issues with Yahoo at all.
Obscures my IP as well. |
