Hi!

I was sitting on a sunny deck over a pretty lake last Sunday with a friend of mine, and the conversation turned to Stupid People. From there, naturally, we turned to scammers, who expect us to be phenomenally stupid. And he mentioned this place.

Well, I was hooked. In my own modest way, I've been baiting scammers for years: I especially delight in having my evil way with telemarketers, but I've been known to really, really be tempted to have a serious go at internet scammers as well.

I've just spent an interesting time, just before starting an account here and introducing myself, reading your public pages about recommended courses of action, and I must admit one of the reasons I haven't yet played with the heads of internet scammers was because it simply hadn't occurred to me that I could start a fake email account for baiting scammers as easily as I can start fake email accounts of playing online games <grin>, and I *certainly* wasn't going to give them any real stuff to go on.

I'll be hanging around, watching the experts at work for a while. Respect, respect!

Making life harder for people doing their job that so far is not illegal is not exactly what we do around here. Especially since most telemarketers I at least know are definitely not people who wanted to be telemarketers first and foremost, but students, older folks or down on their luck needing money to make ends meet. We make life harder for criminals who steal money and sometimes lives. That's quite different.

I agree about what Ducking says above, though. Most telemarketers who cold call you are only doing this in order to sell you genuine products, no matter how unneeded they might be in your life right now. Messing with those people is not a thing I would ever recommend as making a positive effect in the world.

I won't repeat the excellent advice above, but have a look at the stickies in Main-they are full of info about what we do and how. Also Eater U can give you a how to on the easier and the more complicated forms of baiting.

If you want to start off, straight baiting offers all sorts of opportunities!

Hey, look, the comment about telemarketing was just that so far I haven't dared take on the Bad Boys: the most I've ever done is toyed with the minds of people who've invaded my home (by phone). I used to work briefly as one of them, once. It was awful. And I recognise the training almost immediately. Smile

At the moment, I'm slowly following the stories of some recent good work on the forum, and enjoying I immensely. I am not fit to grovel at the feet of you people. <laughter>
