In these PC crazy days, it can often be a minefield knowing how to describe people of different sexual persuasions or ethnic minority, without causing offence.

So, hillbilly and redneck? Are they the same? Is one derogatory? Which is Justcold?

Redneck shouldn't be derogatory, but it is - originally, it referred to field workers more or less of the Grapes of Wrath era. Now, it implies ignorant racists.

When I was about 12 years old I had a green Parka coat and somebody once called me a 'Mod'.

I felt so insulted by that slur, and it put me off Scooters for life.

Looks like a pike to me (Esox is the genus of pikes). There is a fish called garpike, but it is not a pike.

I was once in NYC with some British friends and one bought a jacket that looked quite like the one on the cover of Quadrophenia. I remarked that he had bought "quite a nice Parka" which got me "if looks could kill" stares followed by a whole lecture on how it wasn't a Parka. I wrote the whole thing off to the whole "tomato-tomato" thing until I read Pete Townsends recent biography in which he clearly delineated that the jacket on the cover of Quadrophenia was NOT a Parka.

Anyone who call your a "mod" for wearing a "parka" obviously didn't realize you weren't wearing a "war time coat"!

On topic: There is a difference between a Hillbilly and a redneck. I won't get into them here for fear of giving some of our new moderators their first chance to push some of those fancy moderator buttons...

@ Esox as this is your neck of the woods get your self down to the Guildhall in September. I can guarantee there won’t be any parkas but I can assure you there will be plenty of war time coat scooter riders in attendance.

Thanks Ag but that's not really my 'cup of tea' these days, and whilst mentioning cups - in response to the question by the Bunny Boy In Porcelain, yes (Northern) Pike are quite edible however over here nobody bothers much with taking them for the pot anymore.

Having lived and fished in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and my home state of Oklahoma...the pike is in no way a relation to the gar. The gar would make a jail house bride of the pike.
