Hello everyone. I just received a letter containing a cashiers check from a scammer that want me to cash it and wire him the remaining balance via WU. My first step is I'm going to delay and make him believe there isn't a WU office anywhere close. This is going to be fun! Also if anyone else has some good ideas for my first bait please post them here. |

If they have your location you should drop the bait immediately. Remember although the scammers may not seem dangerous they are criminals and it's never good to underestimate them, especially if theu have RL personal information.
Welcome though to 419eater! This is a wonderful community and has sone great resources for getting involved in scam baiting!
This is one of my favorite guides to starting out!

What BBB said.
Safe baiting is our mantra and nothing is less safe than baiting a lad who knows your name and especially your address. The odds of that being dangerous may seem small, but lads do network and there are a surprising number of them in the US and Canada. Capone and I baited a lad from Atlanta who partners with lads in west Africa, he was happy to travel all around the US.
Fake checks cost the lads some money so they don't take being messed with very lightly.
Drop him and grab another from Surplus, and have fun! |

OK. Got it. Thank you both for the advice. I'll be safe and drop this guy by telling him my bank rejected the check due to it being fake. |

Just as an additional precaution, if you haven't told the scammer about receipt of the check, claim that it never arrived and the address is wrong. Invent an entirely new address, which of course will be fake, changing the street and number. That might at least lead away from your location.
Premium, if you choose to join, has a drop box in the US that you can have your lad send checks to. Also a number of baiters have made their own arrangements for a maildrop-with no personal information. |
