Huge Snowstorm

Anyone else getting hit by this huge storm?

I'm in Syracuse, and we've already gotten 8 inches since late morning, and another 8-10 inches overnight. Roads are a mess and lots of highways shut down due to accidents and disabled vehicles.

The worst is to hit tonight.

Took me an hour and a half to get home from work and it's usually only a 25 minute commute.

Lots of cars getting stuck on the hill where I live, the the morons are just spinning their tires for 10 or 15 minutes instead of backing down and going around. A small school bus was stuck. Apparently the rear end slid into a snowbank and he was stuck. Took a half-dozen neighbors to get him unstuck, and then what do you think he does? Tries to go up the hill and gets stuck again. Finally, after he was "rescued" the second time, he backed down the hill and went around.

I have no idea why the school bus was even out, as all the schools were closed. Thankfully it was just the stupid driver and no kids on board.

So anyone getting hammered with the snow?

Just some rain last night and this morning down here in the South. (We've already had our quota of snow for this decade, thanks.) Stay safe and warm up there. At least you have a good excuse why you can't get to WU!

We are getting Hammered here. The visibility is next to zero due to the Blowing snow and the temperature has dropped dramatically. I'd say there is six inches on the ground and they are predicted that much again before this winds down.

The drive home wasn't too bad because there was almost no one on the road. There was one lonely OPP Cruiser behind us the whole time but we were able to average about 70km/h (in an 80) for the Highway travel. We did keep the truck in 4X4 the whole way as the drifts were plenty in spots. It usually takes us about 40 minutes to commute and we did it in just over an hour; not bad considering we kept off the 401.

Oh well I haven't had a snow day in close to two weeks so I best enjoy it. As a special added bonus I did get to try out my new toy a Suzuki 750 King Quad and it seems to do the trick for pushing the stuff around. Sadly I still really don't many places to put the stuff as our Spring-like weather only lasted for day and a half.

I've been forced to dig my summer clothes out of storage to better cope with these sunny, 75 degree days. It's rough. Wink

(But there is a downside: severe drought this year.)

Ski resorts up in the northern part of the state are getting 2 to 3 feet so their doing the happy dance.

West Carolina here. The temp was up to 25 or so yesterday and still warmish today, but now it's chilly, and it's expected to be -4 tonight (or was yesterday when I checked the forecast). I brought my seeds (at least one has sprouted) in. No snow yet, but maybe there will be some.

Some areas received a foot of snow, we *only* received 8 inches. Dog was not happy when I let her out his morning. She bounced out and stood there, looking pissed that her trails through the yard were all gone. I was hoping she would walk to the gate and break me a path for when I had to go to work. No such luck, had to make a path in knee deep snow to gate since the shovels were outside the gate in driveway, next to the wheelie bin.

Had to drive truck to work today, didn't want to get stuck with car. Ended up pulling tree branch off friend's jeep and across his lawn so he could get out. Branch took out electrical meter, cable, internet and phone lines to his house.

Haven't been able to use my driveway for 2 weeks due to melting snow and ice dams falling off neighbor's house. My house and hers are only about 12 feet apart so the huge ice chunks that fall off her 2-story house land squarely on my driveway on one side and her driveway on the other. Chunks the size of a 2-drawer filing cabinet have smashed right where a car could have been. Have resorted to parking on street, fighting all the neighbors for spaces. More ice dams left on her house, plus all the ones on my house. Now everything is refreezing, driveway is almost knee deep in snow over thick layer of ice

Am waiting for ice dams to fall off my house onto the neighbor's drive on the other side. Twisted Evil

While they are quiet-ish, they have decided to park their truck just barely in their drive, so they open the passenger door over my flower beds and walk on the plants and small retaining wall. Have rebuilt the wall 3 times, this year am putting in boulders as the wall.

50 car pile-up on the Ohio Turnpike yesterday. I didn't get it near as bad as some did. I only had 2" when I left for work. The plow had been past my house by the time I returned home. I had to shovel the 3' high pile in the end of my driveway and I was good to go.

@Merry Widow: Wow--that's a lot of ice! That has to be really dangerous. And it must suck you have to park on the street.

I always park on the street as I rent my apartment and there is no driveway.

Had more cars stuck on the hill last night, and then a city plow (one of those big things) got stuck as well. He came within a foot of wiping out my precious Jeep.

Roads are still crappy this morning. The plow went out, but there's a lot of ice under the snow. The temperatures dropped really quickly yesterday afternoon and that caused that.

No more snow for today, but cold and windy. Might make it up to 12 degrees F for a high, then we warm back into the 40s Friday, then cool off again next week.

We had around 14 inches of snow from the storm.

We have about 3 feet of snow, but it's old stuff from since Christmas that has only just started to melt. Despite being the "land of 10000 lakes" we thankfully don't get the lake-effect snow. Had enough of that growing up in OH.

Indy was on the southern part of the snow and only received about two inches. However, it was 72 on Tuesday and 9 yesterday. Colder today. That is a huge swing in temperature.

In SW Ohio we got a lot of wind and about two inches since yesterday afternoon. The little that stuck to the roads disappeared when the sun came out this morning. It will all be gone within 24 hours as the temps get into the 50s tomorrow.

My parents are in northern Vermont and get an extra gift from the Great Lakes, so they got dumped on. The wind blew off Lake Champlain, so my father had to go out the windward side of the house to go around to the leeward side and move the snow drifts that had piled up and covered all the windows and the front door.

Spring is gonna suck up there. The fluctuations have given them a classic Vermont layer cake: 1" of ice, then snow, then another 1" of ice, then more snow. The driveway is now the height of the first step of the porch.

I went surfing.
