It's interesting reading, and hopefully people who are involved in mystery shopper scams will read it and realize what they're mixed up with. The comments are of course typically ignorant.

Western Union and Money Gram could stop a lot of the mystery shopper scams by posting large signs in their offices announcing "WE DO NOT USE MYSTERY SHOPPERS - IF YOU WERE TOLD OTHERWISE YOU ARE BEING SCAMMED!"

Or not.

Folks who are desperate want to believe it badly enough they would convince themselves the sign was wrong.

Scammers suck.

It seems irresponsible for the article to claim Western Union is in on the scam just because they failed to check ID. The scammers are most likely having the victim use the "Test Question" feature of the WU service which does not require the recipient to have an ID by design. The funds are sent to West Africa where one may, legitimately, not have government issued ID. The Test Question and Answer are the only validation used at the recipient end in these cases.
