So the lads have been as dull as ditchwater, so to speed things up I ventured onto that den of iniquity and subterfuge known as FishEatFish.

The usual suspects were rounded up pretty quickly. I think I might already be married to one. But Holy shit, did my alter ego really have to get hit on by the only two genuine lovelorn losers on the entire site?

And worse, why was I brought up to write thankyou letters after dinner parties? And, by logical deduction, suffer a compulsion to acknowledge all electronic communications politely - except when dealing with filthy rotten scammers, of course.

I replied sweetly to the two dudes, thanking them for their interest and declining their polite advances on the basis of geographical distance. OK and I cried just a little bit for the one genuine man - I mean his interests in life are bass fishing and heavy metal, how can I fail to be moved? It's fucking tragic.

On the plus side, I didn't post a picture of any one I know (well, only vaguely perhaps), practised safe baiting etc but I'm out of here.... exactly as I expected, I really don't have the stomach for this romance crap! I'll have to settle for a lotto lad, and live without love, alas Wink

Seriously, though, why does no-one ever mention the sad side of the "looking for love" brigade?

It's possible your new romantic interests on FMF are lads, they just may be better at looking as if they are real. If you have any doubt, drop them. I'm always a p.m. away if you ever want to ask if one of them is a lad or real.

It takes a bit of something (what exactly, I don't know) to romance bait, not everyone has the stomach for it. I suck at lotto lads, loan lads, well, pretty much everything except love lads. They seem to be the easiest, for me, to derail.

You can always come back to the love lads when and if you want. Those loan lads and lotto lads need attention too!

Ginger Lee, where's a mass Mexican wave when I need it! Your "romance" baiting (and I use the word 'romance" advisedly!) are a joy to behold. You and Next Victim, amongst others, have that cold-hearted je ne sais quoi that is vital to the game Laughing

I've definitely got some lads talking to me, and I really don't give a shit about them the evil swine, and they really do seem to make up 95% of the fishies. But the few genuine people there are really a bit sad.

I appreciate the invite to pm you, and I will certainly do that. My cool mentor is a star and gives me great advice, too. I need to try and slap a few Lotto lads around to gain some experience (I hear they're usually quite dense, so I should manage it)

Personally I found this particular sort of Baiting very difficult until I had a Mentee who wanted to go this route. I said 'Shit' because I knew that I disliked it but didn't know much else about it. So I wandered into the Pit and met (Evil) next victim and (Evil) Capone and (Evil) Ginger Lee and found plenty of support. Yes there are plenty more here but those were the people that made me want to Romance Bait.

Sadly it is not for everyone as it is very disturbing. Dealing with this kind of Crap can be unsettling:

You would be surprised to find out that your 2 are most likely lads. There have been a couple that I baited for over a month then bam, their grammar turns bad, some little issue comes up where I can see that they possibly might need and ask for money etc. Did you get them to email you to your baiter addy? If so, check their email headers and you might find out that they are, indeed, not from where they say they are. (I won't pigeonhole Africa, because the lads are from everywhere)

You might send the profiles to Ginger, she will be able to tell you yes or no. She might even have baited them!! Or you can post them here and we'll have a look at them. Very Happy

The love lads are constantly asking victims for their pictures, they then steal their profile and use their pictures as their own. They even recycle their emails that their victims wrote. These lads are the bottom of the barrel and are not afraid to use anything to steal your money.

Hi Oscarpiles - yes, I guess there's a softy in all of us somewhere; it was the heavy metal that did me in! Yet I am the same person who screeched with raucous laughter at the safari lad who got hit by a taxi and broke his leg.
Damn, I must hunt down that thread again, I need some humour.

And as for Bend it Like Beckley - I'd happily have had DHL deliver a rope to the swine. I'm a bit mean like that. I hate these scammers with a passion, though I can never get my head around people falling for it and handing over their hard-earned loot.

I have to say that the Very Evil ones you have named have truly mastered their art, and I perhaps need to toughen up in my attitude to the romance game. It would be good because I have few skills, but one is that I can work very very fast when I get onto something. The more we distract etc....

Hacker, when I first arrived here I didn't think I'd have the stomach to do it either. Then I spent several months reading NV's threads. The more I read, the madder I got and the more I realized that I was better suited to do this than the other types of baiting. But I have run into a few real ones too. I let them down as gently as I can, then go in and block communication with them on the site. The scammers sometimes get irritated that I don't want to immediately give them my email address, but I want to make sure that they're what they are before I do.

As far as the victims handing over their money, I've got a true - and ongoing - story for you.

One of my "alternate personalities" received a pm on fb from a lady who was trying to find a mutual friend (a "major general") who had disappeared off of facebook. Without outing myself, I pointed her to his page on scamwarners and told her that he had tried to get money from me and that I had found out about him (but that I hadn't reported him to fb). The first message I got back was "OMG". The second was her story of how he got $1,200 from her. He was trying to contact her again - so she told me. The last message I received was that she was in contact with him again to "hear him out".

After encouraging her to read about him and posting her story, ignoring him...she's back in contact. You just can't fix stupid. Sad

She even told me that she realizes that most of his friends are also fake. But what she doesn't realize is that another one of my ladies is now on his new fb page as a friend and is out for blood! Twisted Evil

Hi Hacker

My initial purpose was to hunt emails to report to the SW and other warning/DB sites. Mentor suggested to go for more fun with dance around WU MG matter. Not yet reached that to get piggies. I still dislike accept lads love hunny words, even for just pretending to be deceived. Try some more then probably get used to it:p still causing me vomit but I feel much more easier than those lottery or next of kin who requests personal info such as passport etc. However, no rules on what type of scams you choose to bait. Enjoy!!

Coffinsurfer, I never tried FB lads. I use 2 fake books, I for another Asian baiter's dummy to make her FB real. Another is for just browsing scammer FBs. I send you my latter one. Let me join.

I have several fake ones, one being a man. He lives in the same city as my main one and even has occasional conversations with her to make her seem more real. I told hubby that last night and he said I was "one sick bastard". I took that as a compliment. Laughing

Of course the truth is they probably were scammers, or possibly baiters as they were very anglicised, for want of a better word (and I don't really want to be "romanced" by NV, et al, what a terrifying prospect! )

All the helpful comments here have revived my utter contempt for these low-life bastards; they almost make the Advanced Fee lads look half-decent, since the latter at least don't feed on the emotions of vulnerable people, with overnight protestations of love and fidelity ad nauseum! I'd like to get my hands on a few of those, preferably around the jugular.

I shall gird my loins and sally forth for the next round of "suitors"!

OldHacker, no worries if Romscam isn't to your taste. A lot of baiters don't care for this type of interaction. I guess I lack the empathy gene. But reading the postings at ScamWarners is a great motivator.

Actually, some of the scammers are lazy enough that a line or two is all you get and no great effort is required-that may work for you. Another alternative is the vlad crowd-FSU and Ukrainian scammers who use huge long, ridiculous scripts and don't read your mail until the money shot. No great investment required.

I'm sorry you ran into the few real people on FMF.

I have run into one semi-real person but still think they might have been a scammer, just by the things they requested up front. They wanted camera and phone, when I told them no they correctly called me a fake but their response mentioned that the site warning was never trust anyone that won't give you that. That is not the warning at all.

My male characters are pretty easy to spot by name. One of my females has an obvious baiter name living in Hawaii and the other is the Mistress and you can spot the obvious fakery in that "About Me".

Next Victim I have to concede that the "real" (?) dudes didn't get to first base, or whatever we'd call it here.... they wrote cogent invites to me, and really looked like the kind of guys who would be desperately in need of all the help in the world in finding a date. One looked like he lived in a trailer, the other was abominably fat. I would imagine - but am open to correction - that lads, in their cockwallety way, would at least post pics of generals, muscular/handsome/attractive types. But perhaps they're growing more innovative.

I think tonight I'll try and entice a few lovely lads towards torment.
Thanks for the tips. And the entertainment so generously provided by Orville and Derrick, schmaltzy but heartless dudes. I think my teenage kids would call them "players of note"

Scammers have wised up and use "normal" looking people and can put a sentence together. Try to get them to email you and check their headers. If the IP is where they say they are, then you could back out. Say something like, you know some real life stuff came up and I don't think I can invest time and emotions in a relationship right now. I don't want to hurt you blah blah blah. Just think of how you would want someone to let you go without hurting your feelings and say something like that.

If you need help with headers, let us know and we'll help you out.

Do what feels comfortable for you. I took a break because it was emotionally taking a toll on me and have some real life issues I am going through that makes it tough to carry on multiple fake relationships. Heck, my real life relationship is enough for me let alone fake ones! Very Happy

Baiting love lads is a game of patience and can go on for months if not years.

SomeBuddy, thanks for your advice - yes, RL can sometimes be challenging enough without having a multiplicity of selves and lads to contend with.

I suspect our ace baiters have developed a variety of coping skills and mechanisms; above all, although the work done by good baiters is hugely important, and very serious in its impact, we newbie baiters need to not take ourselves too seriously.

Some baits will achieve the desired results, while others will fizzle out I guess, and with experience I'll learn to keep the right perspective. If I don't, I have only myself to blame as there is excellent advice, mentorship and of course the incredibly skilled members here who generously share their expertise.

It can get frustrating at first, and yes, you do have to have some sort of coping skills dealing with these lads. You will find the love lads disappear quite often. Accounts/profiles shut down, they twig etc. Don't take it personally. I did the same at first, but figure there is always another lurking around the corner. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of scammers, only a shortage of baiters. BUT, with more people like you coming along, we can do more damage. We're here to help you bait, but also here to listen if you are having a hard time dealing with these lads. They're most definitely not for everyone! Just don't give up baiting (whether love lads or straight baits)!! Even experienced baiters who have been doing this for a decade get discouraged and need help or step away for a bit. It's not as easy as it looks.

Thanks SomeBuddy, for your encouragement! It's interesting that I have always considered myself to be worldly-wise and quite tough (in my 40s, a hard-arsed lawyer and quite fierce!) yet a dash of baiting turns me into some sort of milksop. Interesting, too, that we learn more about ourselves as we go along.

I've got a few little sharkies flirting on the fishy site, and a lotto lad or two on the go; we are very much in the overture phase, but I know that between my mentor and the members here, I'll never be alone! Help really is just a posting or pm away

Maybe I'm a bit twisted but I get a kick out of reeling in these guys - I can just switch on my online personae and swap love talk till I see their replies taking longer to come through because I reckon they're getting embarrassed in case anyone sees what is on their screen in their seedy little internet café. I find though lying through my back teeth can be tiring mentally - I have a good set of notes that keeps me up to date with what I said the night before to each one - sometimes the better ones can throw in a casual question to try and catch you out. I try not to let my enthusiasm get the better of me and just keep a couple on the go at once in case I get a name mixed up. Maybe dating scambaiting just suits me - I sleep well at night

@kawasakiman750 - The More the Merrier. Many can't stomach this sort of Baiting but our Legions are growing as of late so please stick around!

Keeping some notes is a very good idea especially if you have multiple Baits going on at the same time. I just wish I was that organized....

I tend to chat with these Scammers quite a bit as I find it a good way to let off steam. Usually I keep a few Google sessions at hand so that I can answer things like how's the weather? or what time is it? quickly.

I keep notes in my phone. Even the terribly stupid ones will ask an odd question once in awhile. I check in with Weather Channel also, helps reinforce that you're real, especially with all the wild weather in the news. I know romance baiting is not for everyone, love seeing anyone who joins us and understand those who can't deal with it. Plenty of types of baits, pick one, pick more, just bait!
