Noob Question:
Could you guys explain the icons in your sigs?
I see ones like these with numbers beside them which I am assuming are tallying something

black or pink piggy banks are the ones confusing me the most. I don't know how to put in chat because I am stupid

That should help you. I would make sure you start reading the stickes and announcements around here. Aside from code of conduct with regards to posting, there is a lot of useful baiting information in them. A good place to start reading as well is Eater University and reading some of the published baits as well. Both areas tend to generate rabid baiting ideas that bite the lad in the arse when they contact you!

As for the كافر bit in my signature, that is no icon! Laughing

I had to scroll a sentence off my sig. Here is the complete list of sentences so far:

These two are from Heline (or Helline) James, a dying widow played by an expat in the Ivory Coast who wrote in English and computer-translated it to Spanish. "tarde" was meant to be "late", but that is the wrong Spanish word for the sense "recently dead", and I still don't know what the rest of it is supposed to mean.

This is from Henri Lambert (lowercase) and Ibeto Peter (all caps), a next-of-kin scammer. I sent him a MoneyGram payment with the reference number 335544332, and trying to fix it, I deleted every doubled digit except the right one. The correct number (of course there was no payment in reality) is 33554432, which is 2^25.

This one is from Abdul Hassan. My character tried to go to Indonesia to pick up a luggage containing money, but was mistaken for someone with a similar name and arrested in Japan and deported to Germany. Hassan did not believe the story until she sent him a newspaper article to back it up.

Aside from the icons in the link, you can also see the egg in VX's sigline. That is an Easter contest where you must find most, if not all, of the eggs hidden in different members sigs.

I like to keep a few handy links in my sig line and of course the Moral Monster is a blog that several of my wives got together and wrote about me. It cost me another bait but I still like that they took the time to write such nice things about our love.

Just to complicate matters there are a handful of signature images that are never explained but awarded to members in mysterious ways. Some reflect impressive feats of baiting or other anti-scammer activities that the moderators would like to recognise in some way; others seem to be just pointless fun / inside jokes (Or maybe I am just bitter as I haven't gained any novelty sig icons lately).

I tend to get an unfair number of unrighteously outraged mails since I am into insult baiting. This gets lads worked up in no time and death threats, black magic curses and derision of all sorts are easily had. I'm not short of material but my favourites are the ones where the lad has been seriously put out by extended baiting and ended up heavily inconvenienced. Have a look at some of the others' sig lines and consider that some of these lads have been financially and psychologically crippled by skilled baiting. The pain and despair shines through like a beautiful golden light. I'll never tire of it.

Also, sigs tend to be honor based, apart from those icons awarded by the moderators. I think that's pretty essential part of this community. You could probably add pretty much anything to your sig without anyone questioning it. It's not a competition, so there are no rules enforced either.

I distantly recall one case where some brand new member sported a flag in his/her sig and was asked about it. After explaining it was for the country he/she was from and receiving explanation that flags are for closed websites used in the frauds, he/she removed it. But otherwise I don't think anyone particularly watches those, or honestly would even much care if you made an effort to fool people here about non-existent baiting achievements. Better spend that effort for fooling the lads and inevitably getting real achievements.

We are all in the same team here, so every little and bigger bit counts. The sig icons are useful not in distinguishing who is the best baiter, but to distinguish who is good at something. If you see someone with lots of pith hats in a sig and need a help with a safari (getting your scammer to travel somewhere), that person might be able to help you. When finding a possibly fraudulent website, listening to the advice from someone with lots of flags would certainly be useful. And so forth. They are quite useful, really, as long as you don't get obsessed with them. Look at the big picture.

These Siggy lines are also on the Honor system. Mind you when I do get a good rant it is usually from a Bait which I've been posting. I'm still holding out for a good old Death threat from a Lad because to me that is the ultimate prize.

I'd say in the Siggy line you should leet the Scammers names to keep them from finding you here if they do a Google search. Also, I have two links to useful tool sites in mine. One used to be the actual toolbox web address and I was asked to make it a TinyURL to keep it from showing up in searches too.

You can also always start a thread to look for a group verification. These are especially helpful for tattoo pictures, there are many here that are quite good at sniffing the fakes out, and the lads will try every trick in the book to fake you out.

It always feels better to post one of the rarer icons when it has earned a group verification.

One thing I have done on my signature is cut some of it off. It was just to distracting for me and in truth it is kind of nice just to keep things simple and only put the bits in that amaze me personally. I guess it is the stuff that makes me go 'wow.... I never knew I had that in me' or the bits that give me inspiration that gets down there. To each their own.

Regardless, it is not about signature bling. It is about causing as much damage as you can and looking back on the burning heap of scammers to laugh cynically. Sure the bling might tell you what someone is good at but that in all reality is all it is good for.... oh and cluttering up signature lines sometimes. Laughing

Aye. It's quite fascinating to see how much a lad can buy your story once you become an investment for him. Once he has wasted enough resources to you, he will keep going just to see if he is really going to get the money from you to cover all the expenses he has gone through. In a way we sometimes manage to do to the lads what they do to the victims. It's not that we or the lads are extraordinary storytellers or actors. It's just that we get them in a state where they refuse to admit being wrong to themselves and that someone fooled them, especially in their own game.

My most recent example would likely be Sloth, who also got a place in my sig. Towards the end of that bait I could only listen in amazement when he called me and told me my own freaking story like it was reality, adding parts about how we must go through all these troubles (that is, he had to travel to Tamale) to get our prize together in the end. He started coming up with some incredible details to some vague stories I had spun up in five minutes earlier. He was essentially baiting himself at that point and I only had to shove him in the right direction. Although I've had that happen several times before, it's always amazing to observe.

A leet is using numbers instead of letters. It's not generally condoned in the forum posts but I use it in my Siggy line for the names of the scammers I've quoted. If for instance you Google search K3lvin Col3man and use the "E" instead of the "3" in his name. You shouldn't find a direct link back here to Eater but should find links to a Warning site instead:

If you do the search and look at the 4th result it sends you to our Sister site, Scamwarners.

Tiny URL is another handy website for converting unusually long URL addresses into ones that don't blowout the forum.

I chose my signature quote because it seemed such a tiny inconvenience compared to so many other baits, and my scammer just wouldn't shut up about it.

Well personally I wouldn't see any point in making up stuff as what a lad says is infinitely funnier.

My quotes are one's that made me laugh or gave me a sense of achievement. Apart from the one that says Doughnut who is a female character I have played for some time. It's what I wrote to a lad once and he seemed fine with my suggestion which made me laugh even more.

Sometimes baiters choose ones that are funny mispellings which go on to have a life of their own and have been adopted by other baiters as a sort of in-joke within general postings. The obvious example being stredded for stranded.
