Someone has possibly identified me as a "mark"...

Alright, so I got a visit on a pretty popular dating site from a girl in Northern Las Vegas, she's lived there since November - the story so far is so full of holes and so damn farfetched that I'm almost certain I'm being scammed here, if so, I'd like others opinions on exactly what to do and exactly how far I should take this one, if she's identified me as a mark I'd like to string this on as much as possible Twisted Evil

I'm often on edge, might be too on edge here, I dunno.

According to her, she's half Japanese and half hispanic, cool. She is in university studying an associates in "hacking", and says she could hack into Facebook or OKCupid if she wanted to (after I probed a bit, I'm a sysadmin after all and haven't heard of a hacking degree, and I know even if you did an ethical hacking degree you couldn't break into Facebook without serious ramifications, even if you did have the skills)

She says she goes to university for a few hours a day and that she also got accepted into Todai in Tokyo (top university for those who don't read manga Wink

) but couldn't go because of family. She has no money because she's paying for surgery (apparently the insurance wouldn't cover one part of it) - she lives with one family member who ignores her, and the others attempted to give her a nuts bar and laughed saying "we know" when she told them she was allergic (fair enough, some families are batshit insane)

She is today telling me that she attempted to go to the bank because they are closing her account because she hasn't put any money in, and the teller tried to take the money back off her, as in out of her hands, for fees (is this even legal? I don't live in the US...)

She says she has attempted to get a job but they all shut the door on her, and she just wants enough money to buy a Wii U, she talks about gaming and the Wii U a lot and always seems to be hinting at me, I'm not taking the hints.

So, question, is this likely just a kid who really really wants a Wii U? Or is it some kind of ploy for actual cash? Or is it just language barriers that mean things aren't communicated properly? "She" speaks with broken English sometimes, and sometimes good English, so I'm a bit confused.

Edit: She says when she's graduated if she has 5000 she can leave the country, hmmm, is "she" playing the long con here? This does seem a fair amount more intelligent than most scams in broken English posted here...

Welcome to the forum and I am glad to see you saw right through this one. First thing to tell us is whether she has any of your real information. If so drop her like a plague infested rat HE really is.

If you are safe and properly set then we may need a bit more to know how to assist you if you choose to bait your new puppy. It does look like it could get interesting if you pursue it.

"She" has everything on my dating profile, including my old city (I don't live there anymore) my age and a few pictures. However only my handle is on there, my real name isn't.

I'm unsure if it's just a kid trying to con me out of a Wii U, "she" didn't initially contact me, I contacted her because her profile looked interesting after she visited mine.

Edit: I can pinpoint an IP by having him visiting my server which should lift an IP. It might take a bit of working up to that though...

That profile has a bit of you so it is best to drop that and if you choose to pursue it, create a totally bogus one.

For the change, there is a report this post in the corner of your own post that you can use to ask the mods for help in that change.

I might have thought child for about a second but the bank draws up something more suspicious. He is priming you for future excuses.

Welcome Adam, take next victim's advice and drop him. Then create another account see what goes on from there. Better to be safe than sorry!

Hi Adam,

As everybody else has said here, if the scammer has any personal info drop him. then fake up a profile and start over.

From the info you posted, this isn't a she and isn't a kid.100% scam artist. I'm glad you spotted the game.
