I finally figured it was time to get rid of my 2006 Jeep. It's been slowly costing more and more to get it fixed, and I had the "death wobble" again.

So I decided to lease a new 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport Smile

They gave me $9,000 for my old one, and I've got a lease payment of only $210 USD a month for three years.

I'm still getting used to the clutch and stuff, and the gas pedal is slanted to the right, which I'm not used to. On my old Jeep the pedals were straight. And it has that hill assist feature. For those who don't know what that is--it's when you're stopped on a hill and when you release the clutch (or if automatic just step on the gas) you don't roll backward. It holds your position for about 2 seconds (depending upon how hard you are pressing on the brake). Well, it does it on flat ground also. So there have been a few times tonight where I stalled it because I wasn't giving it enough gas (actually I was--but hill assist hadn't kicked off).

So I'm getting used to it. I feel like such a newbie driving this, and I've been driving a manual transmission for over 30 years.

ETA: @ TheDane, BIL is used as an abbreviation for "Brother-in-Law".

This is my third Jeep. My first was a '98 (used), then an '06 (brand new), and now this one.

For some reason I love 'em, and I don't even go off road. And they kick ass in the winter, which as you know, can get pretty severe here in Syracuse.

I'll be curious to see how these 32-inch tires (17 inch rims) handle the snow. They say smaller and narrow is better, but I think this beast will go through anything.

The 2013 model really changed so far as quietness and smooth ride. While it definitely doesn't drive like a luxury car, this one is at least five times smoother than my '06.

They must be pleased with them too or they wouldn't keep buying them. They bought a new one also. He said it had all of 200 miles on it last Saturday when I visited them. I can't remember what model they bought though. I'm not much of a Gear-head. LOL.

That was a tiny bit confusing, as "bil" means "car" in the Scandinavian languages (but I kinda figured that your car isn't buying jeeps). Laughing

Very nice (don't remember seeing that color before).

I learned how to drive a manual transmission on a Jeep (old CJ-5). Very forgiving clutch. When my wife and I first met we were both driving Jeep Wranglers (both with manual transmissions). We have been talking about getting one again.

Very tasty. I drive a 2005 Liberty CRD. First automatic I ever drove. Would hate to go back to a manual box again. Fancied a Wrangler for a while, but I don't think Mrs would be appreciative.

That roof would leak a treat round here iMike, unless you get a carport like what I got.

Of course it only works when the rains comes straight down, which isn't often. Sad

Nice looking Jeep, doc. May you never have the need to be returned to upright when off roading.

Recently I have sworn off Chrysler family products after this last minivan and am on the Toyota bandwagon again.

@Bo: Yeah, I know it was a statement one would never expect. But my 2006 was a real kidney buster. I mean, you hit one little bump and your kidney and spleen felt it. And that's on regular roads.

For off-roading, folks like the ruggedness and don't mind how it feels. But when driving back and forth to work, it's nice to be a little comfortable. Not that I don't feel every bump. But at least I'm not bouncing off my seat and hitting my head on the top! Smile

Very nice dwatina! Now you're making me miss me old 70 Jeep pickup. The old 3 speed with granny gear. I loved that thing.

Same thing here in the Gus family. I posted up my story of 5 transmissions and controllers, the two antilock computers that failed at the worst possible times in the rain causing a 360 spin the first time and a creep down Mt St. Helens in low gear the second, the three fuel pumps, the 7 recalls, the seat belts that would come off their clips, the 30 days in the shop the first 6 months, the starter motor I paid for out of my pocket when the car was less than a month old, the doors that would pop open on the highway and the rear window that fell out. Toyotas all the way...except for the Honda minivan and the four Lexuses. Lexi are Toyotas too.
I just bolted on a trailer hitch on our real Toyota. I think that makes it a SUV as its for a bike rack.

Great looking 4x4 dwatina. If you do go 4 wheeling I suggest you always go in a group or install a winch.

Sometimes I still feel the bruises from when i was a kid, riding in my aunt's Jeep through the corn stubble before it was disced under. She said it was a shortcut. What a kook. Smile

I can't wait to do the same with my kids but on a 4 wheeler.

@Connie: I doubt I’ll take it off-road, as it’s a lease. And you’re right--when going off road, one should always go with a group.

@PF: The color is “Dune.” It is a pretty nice color. I think it’s the first year they came out with that color.

I'm averaging 17.4 mpg city driving. Which while it's not great, it's better than what I was getting. My 06 Wrangler was only getting 12-13 mpg city driving.
