Just joined and I'd like to thank you for the laughter you've provided me today. My face actually hurts from smiling and laughing so hard.

Anyway, since I'm new I haven't dug into the forum yet but I've been receiving around two calls a month from India telling me they're from Microsoft and they're trying to fix my computer for me.

I"m obviously not going to fall for it but it's happened a lot the last 6 months.

Anybody have any fun with them yet?

I've had a few calls and done the following.

* I listened to the spiel and then said nope, no problems I can see, thanx for your time and then hung up.

* I asked the caller what the hell he thought he was doing monitoring my systems and vowed to sue MS. He hung up.

* I accused him of wanting to hijack my systems to spread trojans. He was most vehement in his denials. I hung up.

I can't remember where I heard this, but there's an audio bait where someone lets the bums 'guide' her through going to the scam website so she can install a Trojan (which she keeps saying "No, I don't see the "Install" button, my antivirus popped up and says "This site is bullshit"! repeatedly.

Nothing the lad says works (although it should... hmm).

She eventually hands the phone to her "son" who "knows computers better" than she does and the lad tries again (wasting another 5 minutes) and finally the "son" interrupts the lad's attempt to identify the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys on the keyboard with "Nope, don't have those - I've got a Macintosh"...

I got one of these about 2 weeks ago. I asked if it could possibly be because of all the porn sites I visit. He wasn't sure what I was talking about.

I let him get to where he wanted me to start working toward his installer but I could not. I wasn't going to shut off my porn videos just to go follow his directions. He hung up when I asked him if he knew any good videos I could watch.

I don't get these calls, but if I did and had the time to mess with them, I'd do it like this:
"Okay, Now hit the Start button."
"The what?"
"The button in the lower left of the screen."
"You mean the one with a gear and the letter K?"

I kept one going for 45 minutes, eventually he got me to the point where he wanted me to grant him remote access to my computer.

At that point I told him to F**k Off and to get a proper job... Twisted Evil

I get those every once in while. Keep them going as long as I can, then explain I can't find any of the buttons they want me to click because I'm on Linux.

They hang up.

I had one on the phone once for over a half hour. I started out by telling the fellow I knew this was a scam and there was no way I would ever give him access to anything. I refuted all the pseudo technical jargon he was throwing at me, and told him I would waste as much of his time as he wished. No matter what I said,he kept repeating that I did not understand and I must listen to him.After a half hour or so he handed me of to the "supervisor" When I got him on the phone I informed him that his help should be fired at once,as I told him from the first I knew I was being scammed and had just wasted a bunch of his phone time. The "supervisor" asked if I had really told him that and then hung up on me.
Just maybe I cost one of these slimeballs his job Twisted Evil

I usually tell them my pc is upstairs and my phone is downstairs. So every time they asks me to do something with the pc it takes me about 5 mins to run upstairs to do it then back downstairs to report progress.

scammer: do you see the button with the windows sign on it
me: I'll check
me; (5 mins later) yes
scammer: press that button
me: ok
me (5 mins later) which button was I to press again?
etc etc

It's amazing how long they will actually stay on the phone if they think they have you hooked

I am planning of baiting them sometime I already have a virtual machine set up with windows 2000. I wish there was a skin to make windows 2000 look the vista. There are many for windows xp but not for windows 2000. It would really confuse them if they think they are using vista only to find out it is really windows 2000. Another idea is I will pretend not to be able to find the buttons and then I will tell them I am on plan9 or [url]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inferno_(operating_system)[/url]

I just lead them on for as long as possible, until I reveal to them, that my OS is Commodore 64 BASIC. That usually confuses them enough for them to hang up on me.

I did the exact same thing a couple of months ago. Twice I came back on after five minutes and said, "I'm sorry, what did you want me to do?" After about 20 minutes I was expecting him to end it at any time but this one was a trooper and held out. Finally after about 45 minutes I got tired of it and said, "I just ran a Google check and found out that you are running a scam." I expected some kind of rant but he just said, "OK. Have a good day" and hung up.

Last time they called I asked him how he knew I had a problem with Windows. He said Microsoft can read all computers with Windows through the internet. I told that was impossible because I am not connected to the internet. Click!

I got one of those a few months back, after 10 minutes of playing dumb the man asked me to go to my Windows and tell him what I saw.

I replied 'my back garden and some trees.'

At this point I think he caught on to the fact I was messing him about or he actually though I was really that clueless. He giggled and hung up.

ive always wanted one of those calls, just too see how long i can keep them talking for i saw a 2 hour youtube vid of a guy talking to one of them, they were well pissed off by the end

I've never had one but then again my land line is ex directory and not handed out ( we hardly use it as it was unreliable for so long 2 years it took for them to finally replace the line...moan moan)
I use a cheap PAYG mobile for when companies need a contact number, delivery drivers need to call etc.
Its amazing the amount of PPI I must have had and the number of falls/injuries according to the calls and texts to that mobile.

any ways...From what I've heard some of the "microsoft" scammers are getting wise and now call claiming to be from your service provider ie BT Broadband, Virgin media etc
