Hello,
I'm a security professional and have a client (who's a prominent government official in an arab country) who got scammed on yahoo chat by a user from Ghana; it has moved to email discussions (which I all have) and there are indirect threats and requests for money, all against nude pictures that were taken from webcam screenshots.
Obviously, my client was foolish and is getting abused. He has requested from me to ensure his pictures will not be published and is ready to provide all details (such as Western Union slips from money he sent already), now it's the first time I deal with such a thing and would like to know what is the best way to go. Money is no real object and much as this issue should be fixed asap.
Thanks in advance for any help provided. |

Welcome to the Forums. I suggest you go to our sister site -link above and below ScamWarners. They specialize in helping victims and in posting information to help future victims avoid this situation.
I am sorry to inform you that, short of informing the authorities in Ghana, there is no way to ensure the pictures will not be published. However, in our experience, the threats are most frequently exactly that-threats. Have your client immediately cut off all contact with the scammer, shut down his Yahoo chat, change his e-mail address and block his phone. Do not respond any further-it will escalate the situation. If you client has good contacts in Ghana, then perhaps something might be done. Otherwise, a complete block, ignoring all threats, demands etc is best. Do not under any circumstances pay the scammer. |

The absolute worst thing you can do is to pay the scammer.
There will be no end to the amount that he will want. You will make one payment and this will be followed by another demand. And then another. And then another. And so on. It will not end.
The fact that your client has diplomatic clout means that Ghanaian authorities are the best route to take. |

I actually mentioned money was no object to paying up 'cyber' lawyers or however it's called if such people exist! |
