until today i had never heard about baiting, but i have been doing so off and on, just having fun because some of the scams seemed so ridiculous. i know the issue is very serious but soemtimes the approach chosen by the scammers is beyond hilarious and i choose to play along (and previously have neglected lots of the really helpful guidelines this site offers...).
one scam really made me laugh, unfortunately i deleted all the e-mails, i had no idea there was a place to share these things, but i do at least want to outline it...
i am into family history and was contacted concerning my "wonderful profile" on a free genealogy site. the thing is, my profile contains next to no information apart from several dozen surnames i am researching and a link to my family tree.
i asked to be more specific asking what "she" thought was so wonderful, if perhaps we were researching the same families. at this point i still had no idea that it was a scam...
the next e-mail however was quite obvious...starting with mutual interests and ending with everlasting love, claiming that our ancestors had brought us together...needless to say it made me chuckle...
so i decided to play along a bit, unfortunately not long enough as i thought it a terrible waste of time...had i know what baiting is i would have carried on...oh well, won't be the last time lol
but i digress...i again asked "her" to be more specific, why "she" had chosen me out of millions of male family history buffs. the reply completely ignored my question, and i was told that i had been chosen to lead "her" out of a refugee camp in senegal...at that point i just rolled my eyes and bade "her" a good day...oh what i could have made out of that setting... |

Make up a new persona, male or female, get right back at him. They are out of their comfort with same sex stuff. |

You'll see another thread in here about Senegal lads targeting people on a prostate cancer site. The truth is, they weren't targeting people affected by prostate cancer--they were simply targeting anyone they could find.
This is a typical characteristic of "Senegal refugee" lads. They raid any website for addresses, then spam all of the addresses with their format. Often, they hit special interest sites, because they have a lot of email addresses, but they have absolutely no idea what the site is about--sometimes leading to rather comical results.
-For example, they have targeted people from a baiter guestbook, even referencing the profile on a baiting site, but still not understanding.
-They have targeted one of my (legitimate) animal rescue addresses, referencing my profile on an "animals for adoption" site (the profiles on that site are of animals, not people, so I guess that means they were trying to pick up a dog or a cat )
-They have targeted scamwarners addresses, again even referencing scamwarners in their approach! |
