My Dad is currently on leave from Iraq where he bought these:

French Cheese? -- French Cheese?

Do you think they are safe to eat!?

I wouldn't of thought there would have been a huge market for French cheese crisps in the Middle East?

How do they make it - Natural French Cheese Flavour ? I'll take a pic of the actual stuff when I pluck up the courage to open it. Rather amusingly, the text on the back says - "No doubt you will succumb to Lay's natural irressistability. Sure.

They make it in the same way they make crisps (or chips for you Americans) in Europe and North America - from thinly sliced potatoes and a shit load of chemicals. No real difference.

Why wouldn't the Iraqis eat French cheese?

I guess for the same reason that a Brit would never touch Indian Curry.

So Frito-Lay is a Texas company. Makes a product full of transfats, salt, no nutrition, and then "lays" in the perservatives for good measure. Funny as to how its marketed and where. <conspiracy theories\>

Since parts of the Middle East were colonized by the French, and French boasts thousands of varieties of cheese, I can't see any reason why French cheese flavor wouldn't be marketed in the Middle East.

If Iraqis were buying Velveeta-flavored chips, now that, I would find strange.

Speaking of Velveeta, does anyone else remember those Kraft commercials that CBC used to put on Sunday evenings, where the guy with the drippingly-smarmy voice would recite recipes for frightening concoctions involving Velveeta, Cheez Whiz, caramels, and Miracle Whip? <<shudder>> : puke

Okay, maybe I am dense... what flavor is "French Cheese"? I am US based so I know the Lays company and those are what we would call "potato chips", but I don't know what flavor that is..... why can't I get French Cheese in the US? Sad

When I was in Scotland, my friend bet me 5 bucks I wouldn't try these chip flavors. Next time I'll just give him the 5 bucks, I almost puked trying the prawn ones...

Probably for the same reason they have Lay's "French Cheese" potato chips in Iraq: because that's the way it is.
