Hubby has just installed this new program on the computer in the lounge (He's a total geek and we have computers everywhere, biggest in lounge)
This program searches for life beyond this planet.
The sad thing is, he's really excited coz he thinks he's going to find something.
I'll let you know if he does, don't hold your breath though |

Does his equiptment rival NASA's? cauze they haven't found any thing yet. Then again I really don't believe much of what the gov. tells me any way.
On a more serious note. When my son was about 2 and a 1/2 he woke me up to tell me about the glowie light outside his window and the funny looking little people that were in his room. We never watched a UFO show or talked about aliens when he was that age. He was adament about what he saw and could describe it in detail. I believe there's something out there. But most people consider me a nut case so I don't know what this post is worth to you.
I'd look in every now and again to see what's up on this thread. |

I had Seti@home running on several computers on the job - was kinda fun getting in the top 100 (of users sending in the most number of finished analyzed packets) but never found anything (nor did anyone else up to now). |

Oi! I used to run that But seriously, I ran it as a screensaver because it look pretty impressive, but still wasn't useful. Once they lost the pretty graphics I stopped running it. |

My nephew insists that the bogeyman lives under his bed and comes out every night to gobble him up. He's never seen a TV program on the bogeyman..... |

ahhh seti - what will they do when they do get a signal - we cant even get on with the neighbours we already have.
I used to use thegrid - they do the same but for cancer research and i find that much more rewarding - if it helps one person its worth it, but aliens no offence but pah - plus bet if we get invited for dinner we're likely to be the main course. |

I didn't run it to find anything ETish, I did it just for the stats (contesting my overseas colleague). |

Well at least we know from Hollywood that if theyre unfriendly and try to attack we just have to use a Linux laptop with a jolly roger virus to defeat them...
..Or we could just redirect them to Lagos with an email client. |

You can't compile properly on windows though, so you'd have to make sure the kernel was the right one to interface with their ship, oh yes and make sure you take all 3billion cable possibilities along to ensure you can get proper connectivity (not all ETs are bluetooth capable) |

What if my IP router is not compatible with my Ethernet LAN configuration. Can Linux offer a SCSI or USB port that will modulate within the parameters of my specified DOS protocol? |

My neighbor works for MS and has assured me that ET runs windows. Something about Bill and a monopoly or something. I didn't understand all the technical jargon but I trust him. |

Don't know if it's Seti, Yeti or Betty he's running, but it does have very pretyy graphics! A bit like those graphic equalizers you had (or was that just me?) in hte car to look cool when you were 18 and thought you were hot. |

I think it would be great for a world unification strategy if we all found a common purpose, which would unite all countries in a imilar objective.
War with an alien race seems like a winner to me - and by all accounts the search may be over.
Given the prospect of alien life in this new planet orbiting Gliese 876 I think it would be nice if the world could join hands and give blessings to the children of tomorrow who will eventually set off to obliterate all life on that planet with a huge interstellar nuclear arsenal. |

I crawled my way to 1000 SETI units, but I could never get BOINC to run properly.
Last I heard, even though the human race puts out vast quantities of radio noise, our current technology could not detect it at distances we might expect ET to be. So any signals that we might receive would have to be sent out on purpose. We have sent out exactly one such signal, for maybe a few hours. It is very much like looking for a needle in a haystack and SETI makes a lot of guesses about what a signal will look like. The good thing about SETI@Home is that the massive processor power allowed them to make a few less guesses. Even so, they would have to be amazingly lucky to pick up a signal, even if ETI is common and the nearest compatible ET planet is actively trying to talk to us. |

What ever to all of this. All I know is if I were an alien and saw the bs that goes on down here on this planet I'd fly home and stay far away. |
