Looking for an Absinthe supplier - Czech?

I cant afford to pay 85.00 USD for a bottle of absinthe online. With shipping, the cost is way too much.

Last fall, I saw tons of Absinthe in Prague and other places for cheap, in Prague even 10 euro for 1 liter.

Anyone willing to be my supplier if they have easy access to cheap absinthe?

Expand your search to Greece and Israel for Ouzo and Arack respectively, basically the same drink - spirits with pine tar added Very Happy

There's also Pernod, but it may be a bit expensive coming out of France.

Hey, I've drunk litres of Arack (or Arakh).

I worked as a volunteer on a kibbutz for 4 months and we used to mix Arack with squeezed orange juice, kind of like a "smokey Joe's screwdriver" Very Happy

We could buy it from "pay shop" for $US1 per litre, though that's back in 1978, the 7 or 8 volunteers would sit out on the lawn after work with a 4 litre jug of this mix and share it around. The soberest would have to make the next one, after two or three jugs it didn't matter how it was made.

What exactly are you looking for?
Absinthe is available here in Eastern Europe and cheap but because of drug laws, globally, the levels of the drug in absinthe are greatly reduced, and is it legal at all where you are ?

I started a thread when Hayley bought me a bottle for Christmas. I did half the bottle in one night, to see if it made me want to write, paint, or cut my ear off. I haven't touched it since, but will probably do the rest in one go too, purely for research of course.

Um, it's legal in Australia.

It's just green gunk that tastes like ouzo. It's nothing special and no "wormword hallucinations" for me at least!

Ah, absinthe! Source of inspiration of poets and composers alike! I used to drink it sometimes, there is one place in the whole country that sells it,

In short:
- the original absinthe that was really hallucinogenic is not made anymore. Modern absinthe is a brigtly green coloured beverage tasting of cheap toothpaste.
- Absinthe you can buy in Eastern europe ranges from 20-80% in alcohol. Always check the percentage, the lower percentages are fake. 55-70% is normal.
- People often forget that there are many different brands of absinthe. Some are good, most are gruesome. Good stuff: Duplais 72% (Switzerland), Jade Nouvelle-Orl�ans 68% (france)
- The origins of the "absinthe drinking ceremony" (the thing with alcohol fumes lit on fire caramellizing sugar to pour into the absinthe) are dubious, but it is a lot of yuppie fun to be had. The real classic ceremony involved sprinkling the sugar lump with icewater. the dissolved sugar will fall into the glass below and create what is called the "louche".
Drinking absinthe pure is also possible, but (in my opinion) less fun.

Since absinthe is not a protected name, anyone can put "absinthe" on everything up to a slice of lard. Do your research and make sure you get your absinthe right Smile

A bit of an advice though; absinthe is a hammer. If it is your first time drinking it, stick to one or two shots.

Fun fact: Pernod used to be a the legal alternative to absinthe.

I used to live in Israel for quite some time, this was until last summer war started and I had to leave.. anyway, I wouldn't recommend Arach, I think its not so nice. Laughing

just buy a bottle of really really really crap vodka and some acid. (don't mix them obviously - you'll destroy the tab) Take one after the other in reverse order to the above and Robert's your cousin's dad.

I'll be back in Eastern Europe this summer/fall so if you can wait I'll find out what's available.

Personally I try to stay away from much of the local stuff. My new father-in-law took me to the country house to meet the neighbors one weekend. They make Slivovitz. Somehow this process involves large Vats of plumbs, twigs and unlucky beetles.

if you can wait a few weeks, ill send you a bottle FREE from warsaw, however check your state law for alcohol in the post, as when i sent someone else a bottle of scotch whisky (glenfiddich) it was returned (Utah).

Absinthe is available really cheap in warsaw, so i dont mind sending you a bottle however im not going to supply it as i dont have an EXPORT licence, but a free gift is ok.

Absinth is derived from wormwood and has a herbally, medicinal taste quite unlike both Ouzo and Pernod which both have an aniseed flavour.

Why don't you just make it yourself. . . All you need to do is extract the Thurjone from the leaves of Wormwood, add some DNP, bulk it up with sage, cloves and a few other choice herbs (nutmegs always a good one) add water and distill. . . Although distilling without a permit is illigal in the uk!

Anyway, I live in the Czech Republic and yes, absinthe is cheap here, not 10 Euro/litre, but about 15 (I guess). However, it is not the orginial halucinogenous one, unfortunately. Send a PM if you're interested.

I have gotten the hallucinogenic absinthe a few times while i was in Amsterdam, you really have know someone though. I personally would rather eat mushrooms but it was still fun. Your best bet would probably be to make it yourself since it is really hard to come by
