Lad's email account

A lad I've been baiting set up a yah00 account where he could put the pictures I request from him. He gave me the password so I could get them with out him having to flood my inbox (what a sweetheart).

Anyways, the bait is almost up, and I was wondering if it is OK to delete all the messages in the account and then change the password so he can't use it anymore?

Why not try the password on any of his other accounts. I know it may seem stupid but some lads arent known for their intelligence are they Smile

Hate to burst your bubble, guys, but getting into a lad's email without his permission is a legal no-no.

^^^ If the lad has given him the password voluntarily, he doesn't have a leg to stand on legally. He has given permission by giving the password.

Yes, to that one box -- it's not an invitation to wholesale phish for access to his other boxes. We avoid using the same illegal techniques our lads use, hence no hacking, sending destructive trojan horse type files, cash-baiting, or threats.

Getting a lad to pose in silly costumes, travel to distant lands, or otherwise make a fool of himself is something the lad does of his own free will and therefore fair game.

Not so under UK law, at least. It's the people who own the system (e.g. the email providers) who say who's allowed access to which accounts, not the registrants. Even if the lad gives you his password, you'd be breaking the Computer Misuse Act if you used it to log in to his account, even if you didn't do anything while you were in there.

A lad giving you a password to his box might seem OK on the face of it, but don't forget your baiting this lad. Baiting in it self is a deception, so you wouldn't have a leg to stand on if you get caught. Also, the lad is giving access for a partitular purpose doesn't mean you can try and access his other boxes.

Gaining access to his account through deception would be ilegal in most countries, I would think.

Closing that account will accomplish nothing. If he gave it to you, it is for you only and there would be nothing else he uses it for. Closing it will only waste about 1 minute of his time and you will lose him as a partner.

I am conflicted about leaving this open as hacking discussions are verboten and it is borderline discussion. But as everything that needs to be said about the topic has been said, it is better locked.

I'm not in the mood to discuss shades of gray and the other posters are quite correct- illegal, probably illegal, or so fine-line as to not make a difference.

Frankly, I'm a bit surprised that nobody bothered clicking the ever friendly 'report this post' button.
