Hi everyone, I'm a big fan of this site and love reading about all the different crazy things you can get scammers to do. But I don't think I'd have the balls or the time to enter into scambaiting myself, so instead I'd like to post an idea I have for an interesting bait. (If there's a more proper place to post this in the forum, let me know)
Since the scammers are constantly using so much religious references in their mail, doing everything "in Christ's name" and saying you can trust them as brothers in faith and all that crap, not to mention starting off so many of their scripts with religious-sounding charity appeals... once I saw the Dead Parrot bait, it reminded me of something else I've seen on YouTube!
The Blasphemy Challenge!
The basic idea is, in reply to some charity scam full of religious jargon, reply pretending to be a very offended atheist. (well, a very offended atheist in charge of a large organization with loads of money to give away towards the purpose of advancing secular charity of course) Mess with their heads, lecture them on secular ideas of morality and the evils of packaging religious indoctrination with charity... and then, in a twist on the now-classic "join our church and do this crazy induction ceremony to prove it" scenario, the atheist philanthropist explains that they need to take very strict measures to make sure their donations go to true unbelievers.
Perhaps their organization has been fooled in the past - it seems that many so-called believers with supposedly strong moral fibre won't think twice about lying if it's in the service of their God. But they've finally come up with a test that has made those sneaky believers hesitate.
At this point, the Blasphemy-Challenge-style video requirement is explained, the verse from Mark 3:29, "Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin," is really played up to the hilt, and the requirements for the video are laid out. Just saying something like "I deny the holy spirit" won't be enough, a password or something else goofy should be thrown in for good measure!
Don't know if they'd be up for uploading it to YouTube themselves, but having them waste money on mailing a physical video would be preferable anyway.
Anyone else think this sounds like fun? |

Most lads are at least nominally Muslim. The reason the church modality works so well is that they believe we are as crazy as they are, except we worship Jesus. |

The funny thing 419fangirl is, that the Lds will attempt to steal your money for life saving prescriptions from your pocket and lie, steal and cheat you using the most obscene and obnoxious lies - but they all believe themselves to be devout and God fearing Christians.
I think therefore that trying to sell an idea of atheism to them would be very hard, but you could adapt it in some way - maybe by trying to say that the use of abusive profanity as an expression of high religious emotion and devotion is your sects way. That may stand a better chance.
In actual fact - I may try it myself - These scam mails using intense religious fervour scrape my nerves a tad, so it would be fun to answer with a mail 'effing and jeffing' (obscure English colloquial expression) in a holy response.
I just love straight baiting |

Some of these lads are really into religion. I have had several actually refuse to accept dontations from my church once they were told about some of our blasphemous beliefs they would have to accept to join us. |

I was thinking of a ganguro bait....
Do a google image search on "ganguro". Nothing terribly horrible, but think how awesome the lads would be if they tried make-up like this-
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=ganguro
You might need to make an "asian" baiter, a fakey religious spinoff, and a new name, but there's lots of ganguro pics to choose from. Then you get a lad (ladette preferably) and get them to try to approximate that.
Success chance: not good. Possible trophy quality: AWESOME. |

Really? Seems like most of the stuff I've read so far from the letters section has them going along with the silliest requests from fake churches... but I imagine most of them would still take their own religion at least a bit seriously, all the stuff the baiters ask for is just fake to them, after all. That's why I wonder if this reversed take on it would have a shot at truly messing with their brains.
