so many struggle with low self esteem and when approached by someone who seems interested, immediately fall prey (from experience)

Speaking of how one can become invested in a scammer on Facebook, what about those who become invested in a live, true beggar? Someone who gives nothing but their true identity, which checks out even when the they are visited in their own country? When their situation proves to be true, just as they described it? What happens then, when one might just be a philanthropist and a romantic? And one has indeed been treated as a queen?

There is no crime committed by an 'honest' beggar, but, please let me tell you that they are no less dangerous, maybe even more dangerous, than a scammer.

However, the 'giver' can still end up with no money, having given away everything they have in the name of both love and care of humanity.

Ah, well, sigh. My guy, who is not really a lad, but a real and true beggar, has not dumped me because I have run out of cash.

The relationship will reach its own, inevitable conclusion.

So, that's some idea of how we get hooked into people.

Also, what happens when they find us on Facebook. After my guy 'found' me, I had many friend requests from his friends. Which made him angry and he gave me warnings not to accept them, as they were 'humanizers' lololol He meant 'womanizers', but Dagbani is his first language and I am a linguist, so I am very forgiving. Lololol

The only other person, unknown to me, who has ever approached me on Facebook I am very certain was a scammer. And this may be important. I kept asking him how he had found me and he got angry.

Of course, I refused him and blocked him, but looking at his account, I realise he had found me by befriending 2 MALE friends of mind, who must have thought he was a bit of a harmless cooke.

Even though my 'guy' hasn't actually dumped me, I am pretty certain that he is now onto the next person he thinks that can help him. Our communications are becoming shorter and shorter and the time he is prepared to spend online with me has decreased to nearly zero.

However, he is a very devout Muslim (demonstrably on his knees in prayer mode 5 times a day, even in the middle of the night/early hours of the morning on Thursday nights/Friday mornings) and I firmly believe that he thinks that if he has taken all my money, offered nothing in return and then has dumped me after taking so much from me, he will have to face Allah at the End of Days. Well, he probably will. Lololololol

After reading everything I could find on 419 romancescams, I recently branched out and began reading sites related to marriage fraud and "love rats" (mainly from N. African Muslim countries) and the stories are also very horrific. I consider them to be romancescams....just of a different variety but as devastating for the victims.

Hi Morgan,

Welcome to Eater. I am so sorry this happened to you. He isn't "your guy"-at the time you were writing him, doubtlessly he had any number of other victims going with the same scam. Although we don't bait them, begging is as much of a scam and relies upon the same manipulation. The scumbag was probably talking to many victims at the same time he was working on you. And as far as his religious preferences, lads lie all the time. Everything he told you about his life, why he needed your money etc. is probably also untrue.

Why don' you visit our sister site, ScamWarners? they are expert at working with victims. And my advice would be to cut off all contact with the scammer. Block him on FB or chat. Cut all contacts so you can take back your life and won't be manipulated further.

MorganleFay... tell one lie and they may as well tell as million. From one lie you can never believe what they say ever.

They aren't beggers or scammers. They are liars and thieves. They will not waste one minute on feelings for you. You are not a person to them. They won't even recognise your picture. Give money and you keep their interest.. don't and you won't.

You are a means to an end. Simple. Sorry to be so to the point but you sound as if you miss him. You know nothing about him because tell one lie and you can't believe a thing he says. Devout Muslim? Yes, I am the Queen of England.

I'm sorry. They deserve no pity or reasoning between scammer or begger. There is no difference. They want to get into your head and get you to give.

@MorganleFay Welcome to Eater! The advice given here is so good and I really do hope you go to ScamWarners with your story. By posting about it, you could actually help save one of the women that he has moved on to as well as more in the future!

@gardenlady I think I was meant to believe that he went over there with a ton of money for this project and it just wasn't enough.

He wanted me to lie for him, or to take on all the responsibility for his debt. Nice guy. It's bad enough he has asked me to contact my friends. As a real vic, this could really mess up mine and my family's lives anyhow when the money just disappears and I am left at fault for introducing him.

How could you have asked me to lie to these people? They are close friends of mine and of my family also. They know that I am not struggling in any way. It's too late now since I didn't get the mail before talking to any of them. Thank goodness. And I will not sign to be your gargantuar. I don't understand how investments work and that will be what some of these people will be giving you. Investments. I hope you will offer them a good return on their investment because they are still trusting me to vouch for you.

I am so glad that some have contacted you already. You are on your way to building your bridge! Is it a turtle bridge? You still haven't told me. I am so excited for you! I am meeting with my accountant and my uncle who controls my trust account on Monday to see what I can do to help. I am not sure where "Building a turtle bridge in Turkey" falls under the guidelines laid out in my trust.

Is he not on Facebook at all now? Can't remember where it said he isn't on Facebook any more and can't find him.

If so can you pass me his email address please? You have so much patience. This lad has turned really dark and horrible. He seemed so light hearted at first.... he knows what he is doing this one. He isn't a few hundred $'s lad, he is a real serious evil piece or work.

Ok so it's using George Osborne's pictures and doesn't know what a Marine Engineer is... and so the level of his scam demands seems odd but this, asking for his vic to lie, guarantee and involve others for him is really dark and evil.

Gina will be good for a loan but she will want to know details about the project. She will need a piece of paper signing to say it will be repaid.

Good on you Bunny...not sure I could handle him ! Too much and too bad for me to have the patience with I think !

Josh Lee is working himself up to something similar. Haven't thought much about what his angle is because he hasn't been so good at contact.... now he is doing paperwork for a 'proposal' for a 'Construction, construction project' tomorrow !

I hope he isn't going to go for a huge amount because I know from SW he has had money from victims. So waiting and seeing.

Edit: Email sent ! Chastising him, but only gently, and saying he may think Ember is more beautiful and younger, but to block me? Block a rich widow that invests when he actually needs her for the cash !!

Please, no worries, I am not missing the beggar (plenty of pun intended..lol), in fact, as I had been out to meet him, at some point, I had my eyes a little more open than I might have done. Won't spoil this thread with details, but I will take the good advice given and go to the Scamwarners site.

May I just say to you all how much amusement you have all given me for some time and how I have stayed up all night reading, sometimes, laughing myself silly. A wonderful cure for depression!

I am really not sure how much I can send yet. My accountant will want to sit down with me and go over what I think my expenses will be over the next few months and we will go from there. I can only transfer so much money out of my trust every month.

Gee...I don't know...I think that big bridge might be really attractive to turtles. You know, all those turtles they have over there in Turkey. All he'd have to do is put some little turtle lanes down the sides so the turtles could avoid the cars. How much more could some little turtle lanes cost to add? Another half million bucks or so? No big deal.

He isn't making it easy to 'invest'. I thought that because he asked for such a huge amount then he must have some decent looking credentials to make it look official. I was wrong...

sounds very unprofessional. I have an accountant, I can't just take a large sums out of the bank, it is invested and I have to get it to send. However, without any details and you signing something, it will be difficult to help you.

I'm trying to talk him into telling me the terms of his loan. I think at this point he needs to have a form to fill out. I am thinking of making a convenient form for him to fill out. Perhaps it will be a nice form he can send out to others as well... with some interesting language warning would-be investors...
