What's wrong with this picture?

It always amazes me when I see some of that Photoshopped stuff.

But really gets me is the Photoshop requests.

For example, I'm in book publishing (I actually make the book into pages, put in the artwork, and shit like that). I make the original and see it through to completion (i.e., printing stage).

Anyway--about 6 or 7 years ago I was working on a cookbook. It was one of those raw diet books. For those not familiar--it's pretty much all vegetables and seaweed and shit like that. Everything from vegetable burgers, salads, drinks, desserts, etc. No dairy or meat in any of them.

Well--naturally the author had a lot of photos of herself in the book, and I swear to God she looked like a zombie. Either that or half dead.

Of course, those photos weren't the final ones. Instead, we were told to make her "look healthier." Those were the exact words: "Look healthier."

So our graphic artist used Photoshop and did.

I guess it still bothers me because here was this author touting the benefits and healthy lifestyle of a raw food diet via her books and a few restaurants she had, and in real life she looked just the opposite of healthy and looked half-dead. The Photoshopped pics we did made her look 10 times "healthier" than she looked in real life.

Don't even get me going on Photoshopped photos of books that show fancy houses and rooms. Photoshop can hide alot of cracks in the walls, stains on the wallpaper and drapes, etc. Or adding more brightness to a dark and dreary room.

I'm finished with my rant, except to say I now look at most photos with a grain of salt. I expect most of them to be doctored.

That reminds me of a series that ran years ago on TV called "This Old House". The team would go in and rehab some semi-enormous architectural gem. And us peons were left wondering why we couldn't do the same with half the square footage.

You're both making me feel old. Must be time to retire to Fort Lauderdale. From what I've seen running on empty beaches with young blonds is the norm down there....
