I am so sorry to hear about your parents! You sound like you have had had to work as hard as I have. My parents do wish that I had put more time into the family business than I have. But turtles are my life and they are proud to see the amount of time and effort I have put into my turtle ranch. They also know that they can can count on me if they need me.

How long until you see if you have won the contract? I find it had to believe that one would travel so far before winning the contract and then having working lined up to work it. How does that work? Do you already have companies lined up to work it should you gain the contract, or do you do that after you after you get it?

You must know by now what kind of bridge it is, or that would be plain foolish. Tell me about it. Is it over water? Or a road? Is it a turtle bridge? I would love to know.

They must really not like him... everybody got cars and houses not poor little Josh.

He has to be broke after travelling all that way to Turkey and still just trying to get the contract.

I may go with he gets the contract but all the stuff he orders is in Africa and he needs the money to get it so he needs you to send the money to Africa to release it all so he can start work in Turkey.

Aren't you supposed to be bidding for how little they will pay you and not how much you will pay them? That makes no sense at all that you are paying them to build their bridge. How do you make money? I don't really know anything about contracts and engineering tho.

It's a shame that no one that you have helped can help you in return.But Wow! $150,000 is a tonbunch of money to ask from anyone! Those must have been been some major goals you helped them to achieve in order to have the cojones to ask for that kind of cash! It would really be a shame to have come that far just to turn around to come home again.

In the bizarro world of scammers...you have to pay to be awarded a contract, to get hired for a job, to get a loan....but you get awarded huge sums in compensation if you ever came into contact with a scammer...although this also requires upfront fees.
All the financial rules in scammer-world are the reverse of those in the real world.
It would be comical if so many victims didn't fall for it.

I am surprised he hasn't been reported on Facebook. Those four men are the most recognisable in the UK ! Especially George Osborne (Josh)... he is in the media constantly.

Joshua is the one with George Osbourne's face. I think it is the one in the back right hand corner? I have only ever seen one pic of George before (from Joshua's FaceBook page) and that was front on.

Josh is taking a gamble on FB using the identity he has stolen, but I wouldn't have known who it was if DA hadn't told me.

I hope I de-educated him asking if the others were just really bad at their job and listening to music. It's a stretch, but maybe he will use it again somewhere! Laughing

Not to hijack...but I'm curious...because most of you are familiar with social media and dating sites...do you get approached by a lot of decent, normal real people? Looking for friendship and romance?

I ask because I read people complaining about dating sites being full of "scammers, perverts, weirdos and people looking to cheat on their spouses or just for sex"...and if this is true, it makes me wonder if one explanation for the success of scammers is that people take a hit to their self-esteem on dating sites due to a lack of being approached by reasonable real people so let their guard down when approached by a nice picture...and ignore tons of red flags?

Because they start to feel like losers for not being "selected"...and this causes a sense of desperation that causes them to be more easily victimized?

It's so easy for me to see the red flags...having read thousands of stories over the years...so being forewarned...but I still struggle to understand how it happens to so many.

I gave up for now on the dating sites. I have been on Facebook for the last few weeks and have been joining the groups for younger men looking for older women. I have yet to be contacted by anyone legit on FB. On the dating site, I just ignored the ones who looked like they could possibly be legit and there were not many.

After reading this site, the flags now to me seem hard to miss. I read about victims myself and now wonder sometimes, how could they have missed that?! But I am not in their situation and believing that I am in love. For many it may be that it's because of their self-esteem, but I think that some of it starts with wanting to be able to trust your love. Nobody wants to think that they can't trust them. Their self esteem is certainly going to take a beating afterward, that's for sure. It's a good question.

I can understand how once the victim becomes emotionally invested in the scammer, they are so vulnerable. The part I have the most difficulty with is the initial interaction. For instance, if I were to ever go on a dating site, I would only be interested in someone my age or older.

Now...back when I was young and single (back in the early 1970's)we would go out to clubs/discos...hoping to hookup basically. But...at the end of the night, those with no luck would often settle for a "leftover" who they would not have considered earlier...not wanting to leave alone and feeling unwanted.
So they would settle for what they could get.

The only site I've been able to look inside of is tagged. When you guys post a profile link I can click on it and then click on the friends and read the profiles that aren't private...and most of the real profies seemed creepy to me...suggestive or pornographic little pictures, etc....so I try to imagine someone on there with high hopes...but not finding much...suddenly approached by a nice photo and polite words...and ignoring some red flags, being so relieved at finding someone possibly reasonable.

I try to imagine what type of scenario would make me engage with someone even though he might not be what I'd been looking for or to overlook red flags that I wouldn't ordinarily overlook in real life....what would make me feel desperate enough to do that.

I try to put myself in their shoes but it helps to also try to learn the environment....what it's like inside the dating sites and the social media sites (that I'm not familiar with). What I'm suspecting is that there is such a huge shortage of "what we are looking for"...so they overlook a bunch of red flags because they find someone who pretends to resemble "what we were looking for"...so they don't feel so hopeless in a sea of real people they're not interested in.
Does that even make sense?
