| I'd advise you to hook that one up to your new modem/router, and have the wifi function of the new device disabled by the tech guy. |
That's exactly what the tech guy did. He said we should be getting higher speed wireless than what we are getting but that's something they need to fix from their end. He went out the the box in my neighbor's yard and removed a filter but no love. Apparently lots of people in the neighborhood are having the same problem. He said the matter will be addressed in about a week.
Another complaint from the wireless connecting ones in my house was dropped connections from the new router. My son's complaint was when I had the two routers going he couldn't port forward (whatever the hell that means) and host a server to talk to his friends from the old router. He could from the new one but the connection wasn't reliable. Now that the new router is disabled everything is back to the way it was before but with faster speed.
Anyway, everyone is content now and if time warner fixes whatever and our wireless speed is boosted a little than even better.
I imagine Time Warner boosted my speed by so much to stay even with the competition. Has anyone else recently had a speed increase? What speeds are you getting?
I use this to run a speed test http://www.speedtest.net/

BT have just installed a new router, apparently it's connected to fibre-optic about a mile away - still copper at this end though. After three weeks of being offline for reason of one department not talking to another, it is now stable. Fingers crossed.
We used to get ~ 2.4 Mbs-1, now we're up to 12.2 Mbs-1. Now I can watch I-Player or You-Tube without loading-lag. |

My cable provider increased speeds from 120/12 to 180/18 Mb/s earlier this year. Since I haven't wired the estate with ethernet (it's all all wifi and powerline,) I realised I was overpaying, and switched down to a cheaper 90/9 plan, enough to max out my home network. (~75 Mb on wifi, and 85Mb on powerline.) |
