^^From what I've seen around town (the rollout started last week), one will be brown (trash) and the other blue (recycling). I will have my face pressed to the window in excited anticipation.
I'm sure the powers-that-be won't mind a wee bit of personal artistic license.
ETA: first post on page two of wheelie bin blasphemy... yessssss. |

I have a wheelie Bin but I don't use it. It sits empty in my garage for the day when it is needed. Therefore I'm probably guilty of Wheelie Bin neglect. (Wonder what heinous penalty that carry's) |

We stayed in Fallowfield, but I was in Moss Side most of the time, as this was the area my group had chosen to examine.
And har-har-har. I do, however, plan to send lads to the tunnels there. |

^a shopping trolley is just as good.
We have 3 wheelie bins black, brown and blue, collection once a fortnight, great fun if you forget which one should go out for collection. Black one this week, brown and blue next week.
Have it marked on a calendar in different colours and then there is bank holidays, one day later normally.
The Fae have fun when yours come. |

Like, how do they work when parked cars are in the way? do they work if the bins are at an angle etc etc. So many questions, endless fascination ...
And, since it's been a couple of years or more since that other fab wheelie bin thread, an update on mine: now 3 bins - blue lidded, green lidded and the original grey one (mine has come of age and is now 21yrs old ) plus a dinky food collection mini bin complete with kitchen caddy for indoors (both of which have been consigned to the shed) - recycling the food scraps lasted all of a month or so in my house, before the kitchen caddy lost it's cute appeal.
So there we have it, phew! |

I was a councillor when ours were introduced and I'll never forget the priceless moment during a debate in Council when a rather stout, middle-aged lady councillor kept insisting that she wanted the bin men to push hers up her back passage once a fortnight. She couldn't understand why everybody present was helpless with laughter |

Around here there are 3 garbage companies and until recently, they all came down the street on different days but all before 8am. Now they all come down on the same day but before 7am. Unless there is a holiday, then 1 will drive down the street the day before, 2 will came the day after.

One company has the grabber arm and if he can't quite grab the bin, he pulls forward, backward, beep beep, forward, backward, beep beep, until he lines it up properly the grabs the bin and dumps it. If there is a parked car in the way, he drives past your wheelie bin. If your bin is at an angle and he can't grab it, he skips you.
The second company has a truck with a big dumpster type bin that sticks out in front of the truck like a giant back hoe. The driver parks the loud truck in the middle of the street and wheels bins to the dumpster bin and tips them in, then drivers a few meters down the road and repeats. When he thinks the big dumpster is full, he hops in the truck and powers the dumpster up and over the cab to tip the contents into the open top of the truck. Since my house is in the middle of the block, he usually does that in front of my house.
The 3rd company is the typical style truck where the driver wheels the bin to the open back end, tips it in and big bar comes down to squash and push the garbage into the truck.
Garbage is picked up weekly and what we call "bulk trash" monthly. Bulk trash can be almost anything; old sofa, leaking water heater, broken furniture, contents of your garage or attic. Basically anything but building supplies, dead animals and hazardous materials. |

@ TheFae
Well, the bulk garbage pick up can be a scary thing. You never know what the neighbors will put on the kerb.
Although the scariest part is what people will take. Local scrap metal dealers will drive around the neighborhoods the days before the monthly pick up and grab anything with metal on it, old exercise equipment, lawn chairs, bikes, bed frames, appliances, etc. Seeing those old trucks piled high and rarely any rope tying down the jumble, is another scary sight.
Other people will cruise around looking for furniture to repurpose, children's toys, electronics to repair and resell or anything that catches their fancy.
@BigAl
I second TheFae's request for a photo. |

^Aha, see? @Big Al, you're cornered.
Local scrap metal 'hunters' are frightening. A few years ago one of them had an old refrigerator fall out of the truck and left it in the middle of the street. I expected them to come back but they didn't. Fortunately the firestation is just up the road, so I gave them a call. I thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle of several very fine young men wrestle an appliance in the street. oooo |

Sorry PF. My abuse of my Wheelie Bin is totally defacto. I have thoughts of bringing it into my house and polishing it with car wax just to make it feel better. |

@ Merry, thanks for the grabber arm info (Glad we have the men shifting ours - would be seriously hacked off if the bin wasn't emptied cos of angle or parked cars!) |

@Al I see you have some of those newfangled plastic gas cans with the exotic safety nozzles. I loathe those things, they are a curse to all that is good and decent in this world. Probably invented in Canada. |
