Hi everyone. It's been a day for me. I awoke to messages from the hospital regarding my son. He's very sick and was admitted last night to the hospital. They believe it's either Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis unsure if there is a blockage. I have been a Crohn's sufferer for over 25 years, it was at my son's age when I first started having symptoms, but back then then didn't know much about it and I suffered for 7 years being told I "had a nervous stomach", then at age 22 I had a blockage that almost killed me as the doctors just thought I was bulimic. I ended up having part of my stomach and intestines removed. I hope this won't be the case with my son.

Since the day I found out I was pregnant with him, him being afflicted with Crohn's has been one of my biggest fears.

I am trying to work out the logistics of getting to him ASAP.

My heart is just broken in two, I am a wreck not knowing if I am coming or going. I am asking for positive vibes, prayers, chants or whatever you believe in to for speedy recovery and good health for my son. I consider you all my second family and I care about you all dearly, so I am turning to you for some positive vibes/prayers to get my son through this while keeping me sane in the process. I just pray there is no blockage.

He's my baby and my only child. I should be with him right now and I am not. I feel like the worst mother in the world right now. My baby is hurting and I am not right beside him. He's the most wonderful child in the world. He's an Aspie, so funny, bright and just an all around great kid. I am so lucky to be his mother.

I am just rambling now, but it helps me to write it all down.

Thank you OP! That means a lot to me. Trying get laundry done so I can back a bag. I will be leaving tomorrow afternoon to take the bus down the mountain then take a train that is about 1/4 mile from the Children's hospital.

I can't sit for any length of time, I am pacing, crying and feeling helpless.

Stressing about the time to get to him won't help you, you'll be there for him when you can. He'll want to see you positive and concerned, not stressed and in tears.

Hang in there. You are not a bad mother. If you were you would not be feeling like you do now. You are doing all you can do. I know it does not seem like enough, but right now you are giving all you can give and then some.

Please don't beat yourself up over something you have no control over -- i.e. not being able to get there as fast as you might wish. I'm sure that the hospital is taking very good care of him and you will get there very soon. You are most certainly not a bad mother, far from it.

My 24 year-old niece has Crohn's, along with celiac. It has been an ordeal for her and her mother but her conditions are under control and she is leading a fulfilling life. I'm sure your son will benefit equally well from the many advances in medical care in those realms.

Thank you everyone! I cannot express how much your kind words mean to me.

I just got off the phone and he is having a colonoscopy and an endoscopy tomorrow. He has a small blockage that the doctor is going to try and push through and also put antibiotics at the site. There is a surgeon that will be onsite while having the two procedures and if surgery is needed, it will be done.

Thank you irishemigrant, my head agrees with you but my heart is shattered. I am allowing myself the tears now, so I hold it together when I see him.

I will be coming down the mountain and to the train tomorrow afternoon. I wish I could drive as I would get in my fiancé's car and drive the miles right now to be by his side. I have seizures, so the doctors and DMV won't let me drive, so...

Luckily my son is in one of the BEST children's hospitals in California, if not the United States. They have places for parents to stay while their children are in the hospital. I just need to get through tonight and tomorrow morning.

It sounds like he is under great care. It's important for you to take care of yourself, so you may care for him. The fortitude of parents never ceases to amaze me.

Just sent him a bouquet of balloons (he loves balloons). There really isn't much in a gift shop for a 16 year old boy. I am almost packed and a bit more calm. I will be able to stay in the hospital with him, so I am glad about that.

I just hate knowing the pain my son is going through.

Juan Freizwidatt- My son is being tested for celiac, too! My heart and prayers are for your niece. The only good news if my son does has Crohn's, I will know what and how to care for him as I have been dealing with it for the past 25 or so years. Much different than when he was diagnosed with Asperger's. That has been and is still quite puzzling.

irishemigrant- I am taking your advice to heart and pulling myself together. The tears have slowed down and I am thinking about what he needs rather than my own pity party not being there this instant. I can only do so much, but the break down and a good cry helped clear my head. Plus ordering balloons helped, who can't help but love a bouquet of 25 balloons? Razz

Son is resting and the nursing staff is enjoying him, they think he's a great kid. Razz

Best wishes to you and your son. He's receiving excellent care but having his mom with him will be the best medicine. Please take care of yourself-the emotional stress of being worried about a loved one can take a real toll on your health as well.

SBAH -- it's times like this that I wish I was religious so I could say something more comforting but I do want you to know that my thoughts and best wishes are with you and your son.

And, please, stop beating yourself up about this "not being a good mother" nonsense. You're clearly doing everything you can and I'm sure your son knows it.

Thank you everyone!

I had a somewhat good nights rest. I have to wait for the doctor to call, to give consent for the colonoscopy this AM before I leave, otherwise nothing will be done before I get there. It's about a 4 hour trip for me by bus & train so I opted to wait to leave until after the doctor called. Dr. is supposed to call between 10 and 11am. After that, I will go catch the bus down the mountain, then catch the train. I don't want to hold up any procedures until I get there. He's in good hands.

I absolutely love living in the middle of nowhere, but it's times like this, being so remote, that public transportation is difficult get anywhere. The bus only goes down the mountain 3 or 4 times a day, so I am kind of stuck. Because of work and needing to be on the property, fiancé can't drive me. He might take me down the hill if need be, so I don't miss the train. We're playing that by ear.

I am just taking deep breaths, telling myself that I am doing everything I can and just being calm. Reading Eater helps. I am reading the "Classic Bait" that was linked to in another thread. For some reason, reading lad pain is very comforting to me right now. Laughing
