I'm registered on myspace with no profile and no friends so when anyone approaches me they're scammers or spammers. one referred me to this link http://www.freewebpagecentral.com/kateshomepage/

in the following script:
Hello ! I'm glad that you wrote. I'm Kate, I forgot to mention it in
my message to you on my space. So, how you doin'? I am fine (in case you
are wodering. lol) I'm just slowly trying to get myself out of bed.
(I'm sooo lazy on my day off, lol)? Today is my only, "technical" day
off.

Anyways. What cha doin? What cha like to do? You know, the usual 50 questions. lol. As for me, we're planning a party next weekend, me and my friends. We do it about once a month. Hey come and join us! hehe... It would be fun.

Anyways, myspace seemed cool, but I notice how much time my friend
spends on it, and how much time I spent on it when she showed it to me,
and I'm afraid I might end up wasting away in front of it instead of
being out doing stuff. So I don't think I'll post a profile just yet, I'll
just continue to use my friends if I need to, hopefully I won't, ;).
(That was her account that I messaged you from btw, in case you havent
already realized.)

I have my page you can check out,
http://www.freewebpagecentral.com/kateshomepage so you can see what I look like, and you can even get to know more about me. It's kinda like
the artisic side of me.

Let me know if you wanna talk more. And let me know if you want to come
to our party. That would be kinda cool. All I do is usually work and
stay home during the days, but weekend nights, I'm usually out with my
girl friends. Maybe, if you'd like, we can also meet up for coffee or
drinks or somethin' when we both get some free time...?

Anyways, I'm gonna get goin'. I think I'll get off my lazy ass now and
get my car washed or somethin'. Or maybe I'll just soak in the tub for
an hour or two. Either way, write back soon! and take care!

xoxo ~ Kate

I guess my questions are: can any of you kill the site? is it a scam or just pay to view some sort of porno?

It's just a spam advert for a paysite.

I guess they figure if they send out enough messages, some mug or other will lose the plot and sign up for it.

I'm new here but I have made a couple of posts. Looks like this is a tough clique to get into. But that's OK, I've learned a lot from your posts so far and with or without help, I'm interested in stringing along as many romance scammers as I can.

I joined MySpace a few days ago so that I could spy on my teenage daughter. I couldn't read the crap she'd posted unless I was a member. I am a divorced woman over 50 and self employed. That was the extent of information I put in my profile. I did not post a pic.

OMG, MySpace is rampant with scammers and it looks like they're targeting people like me. In just 4 days now, I've had over 100 emails and only 4 of then I'm not sure are scammers. Actually only 1 I know isn't. 3 are questionable. The rest are definitely.

My question is, are these 96+ scam emails the work of a few or are there that many out there?

I'm working a few over with my new persona as a divorced lady, disabled and living off a trust fund. A few were so horribly presented that I made fun of them in return emails - still these wrote me back as if I'd only fawned over their attentions. Many I deleted because at first I was just mildly annoyed and thought they would go away. One I was outright nasty to because he was so incredibly obvious telling me how beautiful my eyes were and proposing marriage in his opening email. He wrote me back this:
Quote:

hello monkey....
dont u have ederly father i know ur dad may also be a fool coz mu are a bastard ub the real moron they are talking about ok ic that u a true bitch of ur dad u are the highest idiot in the world coz u are so brainless u stupid fool make sure when u gotta get home tell old monkey dad that both of u are moron idiot, bastard, fool, nuisance, nothing but a waste product u are
by for now dr fool

I guess there's an insult in there somewhere. Razz

Another question for anybody willing to answer me: How do you keep them all straight. Do you build files for each and calendar contact dates. How do they keep us scamees from getting mixed up with others they're scamming?

This is all so bizarre. It's like an intriguing fiction novel with plots, story lines and characters.

I'm new to this too, and I wondered the very same thing. Over the last few days, I've realized, that aside from the general "story", the details are largely irrelevant, both to the lads and the baiters. We want to waste their time, they want the money. As long as you don't do something obviously silly, like respond twice to the same lad (or even if you do), just ignore it and move on. If the lad brings it up, it's an excuse for some drama.

The last day or so I've been keeping it short, and keeping it to a response to the lad's last e-mail, maybe throwing in a complication or two. They seem to respond way better to that than the elaborate stuff. As long as they are replying, you're wasting their time.

I rely pretty heavily on the chat history. When I talk to lads on IM, I make sure the "save chat history" option is on. Then when they message me I pull it up and use it for reference. I'd imagine the lads do the same, or something similar. Either that or just tell everyone the same story so the details are always the same.

@OldBagLady
Don't worry. It's not in the least bit cliquey at all here. It sounds like you're already baiting safe, and know a thing or two about how to wind them up, so welcome aboard.

Myspace certainly does have a lot of scammers, but as social networking sites go they're no worse than most; just a lot bigger generally. They do a reasonable job of keeping the lid on reported scammers too; their pages usually get killed very soon after I report them at least. Unfortunately, so many go unreported and keep signing back up again, that there's always going to be a constant stream of them. Given that most scammer accounts only seem to be active for a few days, I suspect that some very industrious lads are creating new ones there all the time, although others seem to use the same ones for as long as they can before they get deleted.

As for how to deal with multiple baits, I create an e-mail folder for each of them and stick all the correspondence in there for easy reference. I also use the message history facility on instant messenger and take some time to skim over previous conversations before chatting. When I was just starting out, I kept a detailed crib sheet on each ongoing bait, but that's fallen by the wayside somewhat. The lads generally don't care that much for your story, so once you've acted out your persona a few times, it'll be good enough to convince them.

Thank you for the responses. I think I'll have some fun with this. I'm a very creative writer. I also own a bead shop here in the US. Some of my nicest beads are from Africa. What are the chances, would you say, of actually doing legitimate business with these 'lads'? I so totally understand they're untrustworthy, but I know what things are worth and I would gladly be fair with them. I would never pay anything in advance.

I'm also a certified high school English and Creative writing teacher. I did offer one scammer some English writing skills pointers regarding his atrocious intro letter, if he'd send me some beads. I first asked him to get a translator so he understood exactly what I was asking. I gave him my PO box number and NOT my real name. I told him send me what he thinks a good intro letter is worth, warning him that I know African beads well, and I would reciprocate in kind with a tutorial. He said OK and I haven't heard from him for the last 2 days, so maybe he's off bead hunting, I don't know.

I've only done this for the one lad. The rest get my standard bull-pootootie letter. This one's name was Casey and I detected a slightly lower reading on my bull-pootoot-o-meter with his initial contact. It was short, very poorly written, didn't mention anything about reading my profile, admitted he was currently in West Africa, Ghana I think, and the picture he sent me was so small of a guy in fishing clothes on the edge of a lake, that it was hard to tell if it was fake or not. The guy in the pic looked more white than black, so I'm sure it's not Casey, but still he did not choose one of the model rip offs like most of the others do. I thought he showed a pang of conscience. He'll probably get fired or sent back to beginning scam lessons, for that.

I don't expect Casey to really come through, but if he did, rest assured I'd give him nothing more than a few lessons on conjugating verbs or sentence diagramming. Nothing that would make scamming easier for anyone.

One last question; do any lads turn up here on this site? It seems like if they know what's being done to combat them, they'll know more what to avoid.

Edit to add most recent (out of another 10 I got today. I'm a magnet, I tell ya):
Quote:
Hello cutie,
I have to tell you that you look so calm on your profile that i am wondering if you have ever hurt an ant for once not to talk of hurting the feelings of human being. I would like to know if truely, the calmness that reflects on your face truely lives inside you, then i would be so glad to know how you would like to treasure my heart if i give you the opportunity.I am wondering what a creature you are that.your profile is such an electrifying one that can even caught the attention of the blind ones. Can i just know the entrance that lead to your precious heart and i am telling you the whole truth that no other man can tell you that i will make you not to ever regret why it took you this long for someone like me to come around. location will never be the barrier if your heart is willing to tag along. I want to beleieve that asking your hands in friendship will make you to be the happiest woman in this part of generation and who knows even in some generations to come.just give me a chance to move a mountain and i will prove to you that i am simply man of my own words.. ..........I real want to meet u.......Here his yahoo messager u can add me to ur list.........(rogar1759)@yahoo.com

Now here's my profile on MySpace:
Quote:
Look you idiots, I just made this account 2 days ago and before I could post a damn thing you're bombarding me with emails telling me I'm pretty or you think I'm just your type.

And get a clue! Your English still sucks. You've been pwnd by writing to a former English teacher.

There must be single American women stupid enough to fall for that crap, else wise your spam/phishing wouldn't be so prolific, but gimme a break; I'm not one of them.

I don't want any friends. I'm fat, mean and nasty. I pick my nose and fart in public. I haven't shaved my pits in 5 years. You spam me anymore and I'll rip you a new asshole - across the internet!

Furthermore, there is NO picture of me posted! The scams keep coming.

Don't hold your breath on a lad doing anything honest. Everything they tell you is a lie designed to make you part with your money. Even their "honest" replies are just more lies to make you part with your money. Do you see a pattern there? As for educating a lad in any way, shape or form - that's a HUGE no no. What you teach him, he can use to better scam someone else. No matter what they tell you, that's their purpose in life.

As for the beads, expect the lad to promise you the Earth, then bitch and moan about how he can't afford to send them without "a little help" from you up front.

More proof - if any were needed - that Myspace is indeed the Realm of the Damned Mad I 'spy' on my kids too but after 5 minutes my eyes start to bleed and my brain implodes. If you want to be really depressed about our future leaders then go to Myspace and be very, like totally SO scared.

@wayne,

No, I certainly don't expect honesty. And I would never put ammunition (skills) into the hands of a dishonest person. I get what you're saying Wayne.

Don't worry, I wouldn't part with even a postage stamp to send the sweat off my a$$ if I knew they were dying of thirst in the desert.
