Today the Frecce Tricolori were in my town so half of northern Italy was there as well. It takes some stunts to turn Italian male eyes away from miniskirts and towards the sky so they did a really really spectacular show. Absolutely amazing, it's just a pity that I'm a crap photographer with a crap camera, but anyway - enjoy!

The mountains are a spectacular backdrop. I'm a flatlander, a 30 foot rise in the road is a rather large hill in these parts. |

Rammstein was formed in 1993 by an assembly of factory-weary proletarians raised in East Germany. They took their name (adding an "m") from the location of a German tragedy where 80 people were hurt and killed as the result of a crash during an American Air Force flight show. The literal translation of "ram stein" is a battering ram made of stone. |

The most notorious air crash in the UK was the 1952 Farnborough Air Show.
A plane disintegrated and plowed into the crowd line .
Unperturbed Squadron Leader Neville Duke took off and did a full display.
He died a couple weeks back. They don't come much braver than those seat of the pants fliers from the beginning of the supersonic age. |

In Top Gun it was an F-14, not an F-15...
I can't help smiling when I recall the line, "MiG-28s! No-one's ever been that close!" Less than a decade after I first saw that movie, at Avalon in 1992 I was busy snapping pix of a Su-27 and later watching Anatoli Kvotchur put that jet through some awesome manouevres. I even got his autograph. |

Great pictures Don (I am a plane nut) - I was at the Air and Sea Show in Ft Lauderdale yesterday. Here are three pics I took. (Nothing as exciting as Don's pics) I was too busy looking at the Nighthawk and the R22 Raptor to take pics! The thunderbirds put on a stellar show.

I've always had a passion for Soviet aircraft (ironic I know), I've always thought they looked wonderful, especially the MIG 21 and MIG 23. Their performance and capabilities stank next to western aircraft, but I still have that soft spot for them. |
