I remember the aftershocks more than the original event. Also I remember where that freeway overpass collapsed. There was a crushed pickup truck underneath, and it was left that way for years. I remember frequently driving by it and seeing it.

As I recall it was in 1987? (groan 20 years ago already? Shocked ) I slept through it too although several trees came down in our street. Unfortunately none of them crushed the POS car I owned at the time.

Ahh earthquakes. Living here in the midwest, we don't get that many, but the most powerful one in US history happened in the midwest, specifically near New Madrid Missouri. It was so powerful that it literally changed the course of the Mississippi river.
