Yes, and also the other PITA is saved pw's. There is a roundabout way. Before you uninstall FFv1.5 ... you 'View' pw's/show passwords ... and <ALT>+PrintScreen, paste it somewhere. Then scroll down if you have more off the screen and repeat. Saves much penmanship Smile Print them out and store under a rock by the big tree on the back 40. Enter as needed.

I plan to try Camino once those lotto winnings and many deceased relatives's $$$ start rolling in.

As far as I am concerned I uses Opera if must use Windows (does not happens often). It's the only browser that's really good and does not crash or eat up your memory like crazy (FF is a serious offender). On linux, I uses FF however. Opera works well too but I don't like how it does not fit well with the Gnome Interface. On the mac, I usually keep using Safari, works well enough and it fit well with the rest. What I like to do while scambaiting is using 2 browers at the same time, one for my main browsing and the other set up to use TOR, so I can send open unsafe links or send mail with an account that does not hide my ip (yahoo for exemple).

I have been using Maxthon browser and haven't had any troubles with it. Popup blocker, autocomplete etc all work fine and I have Zone Alarm Security Suite to tag any nasties.

You use Maxthon?

Brave man. Since it's based on the IE engine, it's every bit as vulnerable and insecure as IE.

Zone Alarm won't do much of anything against most advanced malware -- but I guess it's better than nothing.

Still mate... I've always viewed using IE to be the digital equivalent of wearing a T-shirt with a red bullseye. Twisted Evil

^^ Plus it's not standards-compliant, and therefore the bane of every web developer's life.

You have no chance. Remember the hacked adserver in 2004 that delivered exploits to many "safe" websites?

Windows + IE is a giant monoculture that naturally attracts every possible vermin. Alternative browser are at least a partial solution of the dilemma but they also rely on the sometimes very buggy operating system below.

Well I have been looking at Linux... I have also tried opera and firefox... but I guess I must be a masochist, I keep coming back to Microshlock Winblows, AKA Bill Gates Revenge... I'm using last years XPsp2 home edition along with Maxthon an ZA Security Suite. The only way to be totally safe is to not use the net but...

Sure, but that doesn't justify having a very poor security set up.

Maxthon is built on IE -- this means that whatever security holes IE suffers from, Maxthon suffers from.

ZoneAlarm is a passable firewall, but it won't do diddly to prevent you from being hijacked by modern malware. It does provide the illusion of security -- but that's about it.

I would have to disagree. Zonealarm provides more than just an illusion of security. True it doesn't stop you from doing stupid things (what does), but it does keep you invisible to scanning attacks if you don't have a router firewall and does provide outgoing protection as well. The outgoing I like because I can stop the M$ programs from phoning home with who knows what private information. You would amazed how many programs access the internet in the background. And how often IE tries to launch even when you don't use it for browsing.

And before you say it, I know that some malware now can insert itself in the allowed list of outgoing programs so in that case Zonealarm does not stop the access.

know a little off topic, but on the firewall side of things, I uesd ot swear by zonealarm, but after it got sold to the Isralei tech, I kinda dumped it just because of Israel's history of information gathering etc.

Now I use an outdated but very functional version of Sygate from just before the giant system resource slug symantec bought them out.

That's actually why I dislike ZoneAlarm -- they haven't really done much about that, despite the fact that the first pieces of malware to do that debuted in 2002/2003.

I guess it's better than nothing. Rolling Eyes

I've never thought that would be a good idea, perhaps unless you mean a hardware (router) type, and perhaps an outgoing protection as well.

ZoneAlarm isn't an anti-virus app, if that's what you mean. A good free anti-virus application is <a href="http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1">AVG Free</a>

So you are saying the full ZA Security suite with it's anti virus, anti spyware, spy site blocker, email protection, IM security.... isn't?
