Browsers ?

Bottom line I am totally f%#$ed off with firefox.

Keeps freezing, and sometimes it remembers the passwords and sometimes not WTF

Any recommendations please for a reliable browser ?

I am on the latest version of Firefox and I have found it rock solid, not a single problem. I run about 10 add-ons and I find they all work.

Have you tried uninstalling Firefox and re-installing it?

I did uninstall and reinstall about 5 times and always the same ,,,
At first it is sweet then within about 1 week problems begin, I only have one add-on which is anti script but it still gets unstable.

Firefox is 100% reliable here too. Make sure you have the latest release. I had some problems with an earlier build. If you're still having problems with it though, give Opera a try.

I guess I'm an opera fanboy: I've been using it since I migrated from Netscape 4.

Opera just works, elegently, and is just plain faster & more reliable than IE.

DS, I assume you will have similar or other problems with other browsers.

Most probably FF isn't the cause of your problem, it's suffering from an improper, tampered or compromised OS installation.

I suggest you do a thorough cleanup of your system, and the best way to do this is to install Windows from scratch.

the odd thing is that I have a home network both with XP and with firefox and the same probe appear on both machines?

Well that's a dead ringer for a fault then... run spybot in reboot mode, and post a hijack this log, We'll sort it out for you.

I was having problems with FireFox version 2.0 when they brought that out, so I went back to FireFox 1.5 and the problems vanished, since then, I have been using Opera 9.10, I updated that to 9.20 the other day but that seems slow an buggy for now as well, so back to 9.10 again, has FireFox now resolved the bugs form version 2.0?

Do people really use that option? Why not just publish the PWs in the newspaper.

I don't get it. So many people here get a heart attack over their IP, but then they go and use the "save password" function. Confused

Why not use the PW function? I mean, if the computer is in my home, who cares? Someone would have to steal my computer I guess... maybe I should get a thicker tinfoil hat.

I had trouble upgrading to FF2 from 1.5

This will prob work. Uninstall 1.5 . Rename your Mozilla/Firefox profile in DocumentsandSetting/User?/ApplicationData/Mozilla/Firefox. Just rename the Firefox folder to something like XXFirefox (so you can easily change it back if you wish). Do that so the new install does not pick up that data. You will lose all bookmarks, pw's, preferences, corrupt data, etc. Install newest FF, it will create a new "Firefox" folder and it should work.

Does that make any sense? Does to me Very Happy

You can save your bookmarks to a file and import it back if you do that. I usually keep a backup of my bookmarks in case anything happens.

Had a load of problems with FF 2.0 when it was originally released & went back to 1.5. Over the last week or so, that's started playing silly buggers - randomly shutting down & refusing to restart. Downloaded the latest version 2.0.0.3 yesterday & all seems fine. Even realplayer works on the BBC news website.

I keep telling my wife that I really need to upgrade my hardware to a nice shiny dual core 20" iMac, but she says she'd rather spend the money on 'useful' things - ie food. Rolling Eyes

Generally use Camino as my secondary browser--very stable.

Not sure if there is a PC version. Opera is also pretty good.

^^^Camino is Mac only, Opera is also very stable but I don't really use it. I've never had any real problems with Firefox and if anything crops up its usually cause i've overdone it with extensions. Still, anythings better then IE

I had the same problems ith ff v2 as SP and a switch back to v1.5 was the answer. I'm still using it and no difficulties here.
