... you've ever had a lad swallow hook, line, and sinker?
The dilithium mines were pretty impressive. They must not have Star Trek in Nigeria.
The reason I ask is because I'm thinking about setting up a rather elaborate backdrop for baiting - based on Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (a turn-based strategy game made by Firaxis Games).
In the game, all the action takes place on Alpha Centauri. I had in mind trying to convince the lads that the US has secret installations on the moon, and that's where I'm located. Do you think this would fly, or is it overly complicated?

You can try it. They won't read or understand most of your replies. But try whatever you like and I am sure you will have some success. |

Best strategy game ever.
Anyways, why not go all the way and tell them you are on Chiron? |

Yes, it was a wonderful game...
If you tell them it's another "country," they will buy it for sure. If you tell them it's another planet, they will probably mostly ignore it, unless you press the issue. I think some scammers are so abysmally stupid that they just might believe it. |

I'm a VERY straight baiter, so the wildest thing I've ever gotten a lad to completely swallow (he's STILL emailing me!) is probably a tie between my "female mob member/boss" character and the time I killed off my character in a car accident on the way to the bank and took over as her grieving sister. Again, never twigged. |

@Justjay - straight SMAC. My understanding of Alien Crossfire is that it's mostly multiplayer - and (for a variety of reasons), I don't do a lot of multiplayer.
@Chaos - yes, it's a favorite, along with most of the Civilization series. Chiron, eh? That might work.
@mrsbean - female mob boss? Wow! I'll bet those emails were something to see!
@Franc28 - hmm- "Chiron is a small country near the Tigris/Euphrates river valley..." Has potential... definitely. |

That sounds like you'd have to count on hitting a very stupid mugu if you do the 'other planet' shtick, small country would sound much better.
I was planning to have my next lad be dealing with Dr. Nambu of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (Director Anderson of G-Force to most North Americans) and see how he responds to some of the odder aspects of that show that i'd work in. I'm betting on a short bait, but you never know. |

Nothing fantastic, but I did have one lad(dette?) believing there were sixteen mercenaries being paid to protect his characters and preparing to extract them. He believed enough to write them an apology. I wish I could believe that he felt a little concerned when I decided he was a scammer and told the mercenaries to go get him. |

I called a lad from heaven once. The character he had been dealing with had died about two months previous. When he asked how this was possible I informed him that if the Lord could make the heavens and earth in six days an angelic telephone exchange was not beyond His powers. I told him that Jesus and I had been watching him and that we didnt approve of his scamming ways.
He didnt quite swallow it hook, line and sinker but he was so utterly flabbergasted that he took a couple of days to think it over before deciding that something wasnt quite right. |

I tried telling a scammer he was the only contact I had as I was off world and needed help smuggling alien artifacts back. For some reason he was the only person I could email in the entire world.
Gave me a few giggles but he just wasn't committed enough. |
