I got a love scam I'm baiting right now. She contacted me a month or so ago with a sob story. Seems she's from New Mexico, but she went to West Africa to find her dad, only to discover he was dead (or was it her mother?). Well, she can't pay her hotel bill and she's trapped--TRAPPED! I say! A prisoner in her hotel. If I can send her $500 US, it will pay her hotel bill and she will come back to America and be my loving wife.
I smelled a rat the second money was mentioned. So after a couple of weeks of planning, I came back with a ridiculous offer. If she will e-mail me a photo of her with a strip of tape over her mouth (How over the top is that?), I may be able to help her out with the money. She's balking, of course. I want to find out how desperate she is (assuming it even IS a she!).
I attempted to sweeten the deal by telling her that if she can provide me with said picture, I will send her $15,000 US. Let's see if she falls for it. |

Yeah, that's kind of a typical nigerian scenario, worth a few giggles. Its probably not a bad scammer to start with, but, yes, make sure you learn/use safe baiting practices.
Its unlikey you'll get anything other than photoshopped pictures out of this one. Probably the face in the pics will look familiar to us.
Post a pic?
Have you been asked to talk to the hotel manager?
Just for laughs, ask for a scan of her passport.
Jenny preston is one name I remember using the same scam. There should be a message here somewhere if you do a search.
The whiney 'help me, oh please help me!' Emails are fun! |
