If lads who have been previously baited, ever see lads in the process of being baited (building pyramids, church-joining rituals, holding up signs, posing with fruit & fish, getting tattoos, etc.), and quietly laugh to themselves about the fates awaiting the unaware.

Anyone else?

it's an interesting possibility and quite likely - However as they exist in competition to each other, they are unlikely to help their fellow guymen to escape the trap.

As much as I would love to believe there is no honor among thieves and the previously baited lads are having a good laugh at the lads posing for pics with a fish in their ear, it's probably highly unlikely.

Even in a hotbed of lad activity such as Lagos, the percentage of scammers relative to the general population is pretty low. Then, from a baiting standpoint, the percentage of "good" lads (those ripe for pics, safaris, pyramids, etc.) is also low, compared to the cafeboiz and loan lads who just send out page after page of their scripts.

Then, you need to consider the probability that one previously-baited lad would encounter another while he was jumping through his hoops. (Like, for example, if someone who lives one street down from me was building a pyramid in his backyard or planning a trip to Rame Head, I would have almost no way of knowing that.)

So ... lovely thought, Jose, but I think it's pretty unlikely.

Yeah, I doubt they'd get a warning unless from someone in their Oga or another in the crew.

Funny signs used to be fairly commonplace, Somehow word got out that anyone sending pics of themselves holding a sign wouldn't be getting a Westy. For a while it became more difficult to get a lad to hold a sign, than it was to get him a tattoo. Smile

I'm sure it has happened at least once, but it is probably not too frequent, for the reasons mentioned above.

Lads who work in gangs would probably tip each other off not to fall for elaborate and humiliating baits, but freelancers would not have a network looking out for them.

Some wise-a*se posted on Nairaland, some years ago, that he had found this site and realised that a lad he knew from university was being baited and conned into doing some truly humiliating stuff. His question to the community was, should he warn him? The answers came back, in the main, as a definite 'No', as he deserved everything he was getting.

Anyone whoever made or received a phone call from a Victoria Island cyber cafe, was probably conversing with a lad in a room full of lads babbling away to baiters as well. There was always lots of shouting going on the in background.

Are there any cyber cafes left of does everyone have mobile internet now I wonder?

I believe, (Maybe like Santa Claus) that after a rousing bait, the lad is re-assigned to the dog food factory floor, where his last 5 predecessors also fell into the grinding machine at the very same spot!

I think the poorer lads are still using Cafes. Though with the smart phones out there, a lot can do email, whatsapp, skype now from anywhere they stand.

This article says there are about 800,000 world-wide doing advance-fee / romance scams in 2014 and took in 12.7 billion...
