Ah, yes, the days of old.
Records that needed to be dusted off. No 7-Eleven on every damn corner. And... vacuum tubes!
Also, those were the days when Denmark could play soccer!

A little late perhaps
My first computer had 1kb of ram (zx80) before updating to the vic 20 with 3.6kb of ram- but it had COLOUR!!!!!
Computer magazines had the programs printed out in them- you typed it all in manually(then went back through to correct the mistakes when the program wouldn't run)- and sometimes the early ones even had a `floppy' vinyl record inside- 2 or 3 plays and it stopped working so save it on the 300baud Kansas City cassette interface quickly....(well slowly actually LOL)
Many cars didnt have front seatbelts, let alone back seatbelts, and footy games with the neighbouring towns teams meant mum drove the ute, and the entire team of kids jumped in the back of the ute, with the occasional bellow out the drivers window of `sit down back there or I'm turning this car around and gong home'
Having `target shooting' as a school sport- and taking your own rifle to school (.22 or .222) no .303's allowed- had to be in a bag (but didnt have to be in a locked bag)- get on the school bus with a rifle, wasnt even considered a worthy talking point unless you had gotten a new one for a birthday present- then is was passed around the entire bus with much oohing and ahhing- you got to school and took it to the office- where they were all stacked in the corner of the office until sports time.... |

Ah the old 'Tanner' worth Sixpence (6d). In the West country back in the 60's one of these tiny coins was always wrapped in foil & cooked in the Christmas pudding for someone to find amongst the custard. It was always found, nobody swallowed it, nobody choked to death on it. Great days.

Ahhh the Spectrum...
It was the zx80's newer bigger brother.
Spectrum was 16k, colour and had a `proper' pushbutton keyboard
ZX80 was black and white tv output, 1k ram and had a `plastic membrane' keyboard (like many cashregisters now have) so `touch typing' was definitely not possible.
In fact it was actually possible to `outtype' the zx80 and you would have to stop typing and wait while it caught up
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX80
One thing I had a bit of a laugh about was I saw a lunar conspiracy site on TV recently that said that the 16k Lunar Landing Module control computer was inadequate for the job and they would have needed at least 1gb of ram to run the program on....
That alone had me guessing that the conspiracy site was bending the truth shall we say...
After all- the first game that I played on the zx80 was- you guessed it....
Lunar Lander!!!
on 1k of ram... on a b/w tv
(googling around guess what I found- a zx80 programs download- now i'm off to find an emulator)
http://zx80programs.yolasite.com/ includes (you guessed it)Lunar Lander in all its glory |

When lads ask for my information I list my occupation as "sliderule calibrater."
Before 1964 half dollar coins were very common. After that they became less and less so and they are about as common as silver dollars and two dollar bills today. Anybody want to take a guess why?
edit: extra word |

^ Pre-1965 US coins (not the nickel or penny) contained 90% silver, I remember being on order to watch out for anything pre-65 in the 70's and saved them all. I'm glad I did.
Edit: "War nickels" contained 35% silver between '42 and '45. |
