I don't know how Starbucks grew so big in the US - No one I know likes their coffee! Also: Instant coffee is not coffee.
I ♥ coffee, metamit, and feel your pain. |

^Somebody made a point of making decaf teabags which just takes the fun out if it.
@Ima in my local shopping centre there's around 50 shops and 3 different coffee shops, all charging way over the odds, last time I went to a Starbucks I think I had a bottle of water as I couldn't find just a normal coffee. |

Thanks, B8er, that looks delicious. I actually made them a couple weeks ago, with crumpet rings and all. Best hot with tons of butter. |

I'm with KOD - they look like an English muffin. Why do we call them English muffins when the English call them crumpets?? |

^^^What he said.
I agree with Ima regarding that ever-expanding "coffee" place. I have found, outside my coffee at home, that served at my local gas (petrol) stations to be much better and one-third the price of those served by the Seattle snobs. |

I don't have a clue if you can get them in the USA or not but the best english mufffins are called Lancashire Ovenbottoms, worth a try if you can get them.
These are the ovenbottom's;
and my recipe, if you can't get them in the USA:
| Quote: |
Ingredients
* 400g strong bread flour
* 1/2 tsp salt
* 1 tsp sugar
* 1 sachet instant dried yeast
* 1 desert spoon sunflower oil
* 1 tablespoon butter
* 3 fl ozs (85 ml) whole milk
* 6 fl ozs (170 ml) warm water
Recipe
* Place the flour in the bowl, add the salt and sugar, blend by hand with a whisk.
* Add the yeast, then blend again with a whisk.
* Add the butter and oil, place bowl on mixer.
* Mix for 5 mins.
*Pour the milk and warm water into a measuring jug and, while still at 1/2 speed, add the liquid to the mix around the rim of the bowl to distribute the liquid evenly.
* Cover bowl (not dough) with cling film, and leave in a warm place for 1 hour.
* Turn out on floured surface and form into a bread stick shape and divide the mix into 6 or 8 pieces, according to size required.
* Roll into a ball with your hands, until cool and slightly sticky.
*On floured surface, press lightly with hand, then with a small floured bread board, press down hard to form a round.
* Place on a greased baking tray, leave in a warm place for 30 mins.
* Pre heat fan oven to 200°C.
* After 30 mins, using a floured coaster or similar, press down on each muffin and reduce the risen amount by more than half, make hole in the centre with finger.
* Place tray in the hot oven, 2nd position down, and bake for 11 mins, turning the muffins over at 6 mins.
* Cool on a wire rack until cold.

Those look like what we call a Bagel. Spread it with creamed cheese. It is especially good with flavo(u)red cream cheese. Steam the bagel for best results. |
