I know those of y'all up in the northeast are going to be laughing at me about this but, during the night, a winter storm moved in, bringing sub-freezing temperatures, freezing rain, and (yikes!) snow.
Down here in the great state of Texas, anytime we wake up to something on the ground, it's a big deal -- schools are closed, businesses are closed, and we are under a travel advisory. So now, I guess I'm being karmically repaid for gloating about being at the pool last weekend...

This weekend I was on the beach in Corpus and today I was one of only 5 in my office to brave the ice and drive to work in DFW. Crazy Texas weather!

Ok folks, let's get real for a minute.
While Dallas is technically part of Texas (the rest of us only accept it geographically), you may as well be Okies.
Fun fact: during the land rush in 1889, a group of Sooners got confused, wound up 75 miles south of the Red River and staked their claim. Rather than argue the point, sitting Governor of Texas, Larence Sullivan Ross, ordered the immediate retreat of natural born Texans, from the invaded area. The Texans retreated 35 miles to the west and fortified a small stockyard. Determined to protect the virtue of the innocent livestock, the Texans vowed to fight to the death. The Texans stopped the advance of the Sooners, at a small town called Arlington. No Texans or Sooners were killed in the skirmish, however: Amidst the height of the fighting, often hand to hand, the Okies managed to flank the defending Texans. Before the Texans could regain the ground they had lost, 4 cows, 6 goats, 2 chickens and 1 duck were molested during the battle.
Ok. Carry on.
I envy the both of you. I'm stuck up here in NYC... Which is only slightly worse than Dallas. |

I'd appreciate you not posting RL pics of me. Thank you.
Back on topic: mrs_cuervo says there is ice on the lake at home.
@TLH Any time there is even the slightest dusting of snow, the local authorities all but declare a state of emergency. |

Same in England. Because the Met office issues a weather warning, people take it upon themselves to prove that driving conditions are indeed dangerous by driving like numpties and causing pile-ups. Snow, slush and ice are great equalisers and will lift a wide, low profile tyre off the road more easily than an economy sized one; ABS will not shorten stopping distances on ice; airbags do not make you less likely to crash. All this should be obvious to them, but no... |

I'd wager that if airbags were replaced with a board full of nails, accidents would cease to exist. An automotive 'Sword of Damocles', if you will. |

I remember my first week of bootcamp at Lackland, AFB in March of 1980.
They got hit with some snow (several inches), and my TI blamed me for the rest of my time there. |

Here in the Carolinas, we do one better than that. We close down the schools, businesses and roads just at the CHANCE that something white might end up on the ground in the next 24-48 hours. Lol |

At TLH. Nice dusting of snow. Pretty but no real concern. In Michigan, I'd get up in the AM, brush off my car and go to work as normal.
Not enough to track deer though so nothing to be seen in November. |

@srichards -- I used to live in Carolina, so I remember that well. I also remember everyone rushing to the grocery store to buy bread and milk, which I never understood.
If I'm gonna be snowed in, I think I'd want a little more than bread and milk! |

^^^ Along with the Whataburger, I was also going to tell you to hit a certain BBQ place that begins with a "D" but that's going to open us up to waaaay too many jokes from the peanut gallery... |

The Carolinas are supposed to get 5-8" of snow tonight. I admit - I bought bread and milk today. And bourbon. |

^ Jose, If you're a Texan I'm sure you've got a big belt buckle with that engraved into it, it'll be next to your AR-15 to the left of your many cowboy hats |

No over-sized belt buckle, only two hats and an AR-10 - because size does matter. |
