Anybody have suggestions for recovering data from an external hard drive that may have crashed? It's a WD "My Passport."

Thanks all. Scandsk from the command prompt actually worked. Now everything is being copied and as a redundancy an image of the old HDD is being made.

I have used Recuva but it doesn't recover files that have been wiped (as opposed to deleted).
