Anarchist/libertarian schools have been going on for long, even today many schools are based on anarchist pedagogy, and even the Montessori method draws some inputs from it. In my country we had the Modern School, led by Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia: one of the most successful experiments on education, until a bigoted government used him as a scapegoat for some riots and went firing squad on him.

I put my eldest son into an "alternative" school when he was 15. By the age of 18 he was an Area Manager for 16 Burger King franchises, he left school about then, he went on to become Training Manager and Set up Manager for new franchises

He was then "poached" by Burger Fuel, a NZ alternative, and is now Franchise Manager for 6 stores, Training and Set up Manager again, and is enjoying a rather healthy income.

If he had stayed in the education system, I doubt he'd be doing as well, and in fact, I'd probably be visiting him in jail.

All the other people that went through Auckland Metro with him, have all succeeded in various skill sets, from art, dance, music, writing, to make me more convinced that there will always be a need for an alternative to State derived education systems
