Sadly two of the victims mentioned were doctors trying to treat patients. And yes, it would be horrific if this were to get into the population.

Agree that it's an awful thing, but... maybe... could it be used to stress out some of the more easily-stressed lads even further? I'm thinking of Sh0rty and Pig$ in particular (maybe Femmy too), aren't they always talking about how they have headaches and can't answer phones or e-mail 'cos they're lying down with a cold cloth on their foreheads???

But yes, safaris are out of the question.

My goodness, should they even be going to banks or WU or MG offices? Should they be out in public?

I'm waiting for some RomScamLad to tell his sweatheart he's in hospital with it and please send money, they won't give him the cure unless he pays.

I can see this either slowing down the emails from Nigeria as they try to leave for a bit to avoid Ebola, or really ramping it up as the people stay indoors/try to get tons of money for treatment in case they catch it.

Also, a whole new strain of emails, a la the hurricane Katrina emails.

Would be interesting to spread a rumor in lad land about something scam related that makes them more prone to catching Ebola. There is an outbreak apparently.

haha, sending out mass emails to lad emails saying things like "if you go to the offices and get a fake passport made it might have ebola on it" could be beneficial in stopping some of the people, though I'd hate it if we spread info like that, made some silly false cure (stand in the river with your hands on your head and spin around) that might end up with them catching ebola. I like my lads led, not dead.

What you've got is a virus wiping out whole communities. It's scary enough sitting in the West reading about it and hoping it doesn't reach our shores so I can't even imagine how Africans close to the outbreak must be feeling about it.

The last thing you want is some lad, running around, gobbing off that there's Ebola in his direct area. Things are bad enough as it is and the added risk of involving ITPs and creating a godawful mess isn't worth taking.

Though heard on the radio this morning that is isn't an airborne disease.. It is passed via close contact with body fluids or contaminated surfaces.

It would have to be so related to scam activity that it couldn't spread around to hit ITP's in the surrounding community which in the situation would be impossible.

I'll be sitting this one out. I'm too superstitious to do an Ebola-related bait. Or maybe just creeped out... or both.

That said, if anyone else manages it without breaking ITP rules (which would include things such as the lad running off to an overworked doctor, the closing of legit internet cafes, etc.), I'll read your baits with interest.

I wasn't trying to justify using Ebola as a baiting tool, just pointing out that the media has whipped everyone into a frenzy about it while malaria is boring, yet kills millions of people a year, every year.

I agree that the ITP rule would clearly come into play. I'm not a doctor but bleeding from the eyes can't be a good thing. Ebola, on the "that shit is scary" scale, is a 10/10 and to subject a lads family, friends or others with worries about it would be over the line.

Malaria is unlikely to spread to Western nations as it relies on a population of mosqitoes to transmit it. Ebola can spread person-to-person and will survive in any climate. That's what makes it a good story. Thousands dying from Malaria, in any context, won't really make the papers, despite the human cost. That's the news organisations for you, I'm afraid.
