Hello, just curious...I get 100s of scam emails and finally got fed up and sent back a really nasty email. The scammer must have been insulted because he found my home # and called. I hung up but was a bit freaked out... Is this normal for them to call? I was an ass to respond but I was so fed up. Thanks in advance. |

This is a bit...unusual, but a good reminder of why we emphasize the safety aspect in baiting. However, chastising you won't do any good, so instead here's some advice: ignore the scammer. The odds that he will do anything other than call you are low. But if he continues threatening you, inform the police at least. The chance that the scammer has someone living near you who could do actual harm is also low, but it exists, so this should be taken seriously. |

They will regularly send insults and death threats, usually by email, but sometimes by phone.
We laugh them off, because they are threatening a person who doesn't exist, but obviosuly being traced by the scammer and receiving a call on your home # is a different matter.
This is a great example of why using fake details that aren't traceable to your real life is so important. |

Are you baiting safe? The email account that you use to talk with scammers has no connection to your real self, and the postal address you use does not exist?
If you get more scam emails than you can bait, please post them in Surplus and Scamwarners. |

One of 2 things happened here your telephone number was part of the email or he googled the email and he found your phone number.
If the latter I would google your email and if you find personal information on the net I would try and remove the personal info from FB profile etc. If you can’t you should consider changing your email address if you can and distancing it from any RL information.
Chances are he will forget about you in a day or 2 and move on. |
