Just a quick note of apology to my mentees, this is the first time that I ve been able to get on the site in 11days. The phone and Internet are both down here, BT have promised to fix it by tomorrow - several times. Any questions can be posted In HH&TIPS, the lads and lasses here are usually helpful. -ish.

When mine went down, I spent a week getting very cross with half the call centre handlers in India for a week, who always promised me a fix tomorrow.

It turns out a cable had been cut and the whole estate was cut off for a week, only no one told the help line people. Rolling Eyes

I was with them for a while, every bill was higher than the last.Why co's I "kept exceeding my download allowance" At the time,I did not know what a download was.

Update: the phone is now working, and so is the Internet. The gods of providence have seen fit to strike down my computer. Despite this, I'll be back in the next couple of days.

Good job too, my fingers are too big for this phone's screen, it took me twenty minutes to type ^ that lot.

And it broke again.

Although we were only off for four days this time. Interestingly each engineer blames what the previous engineer did - apparently by rote - I even found myself trying to get the poor guy off-script at one point.

Anyhow, back again at least for the time being, I'm ok, but my dad's got no connection as the last guy moved the main socket and the router too far away from his computer for the DSL line to reach. Shopping for Wi-Fi dongles tomorrow then. Rolling Eyes

I can assure you TalkTalk are no better. My upload speeds have been down at 0.07Kbps for the last month or so. When I phone up they go back to normal for 12 hours then drop away again. :banghead:

^ Could be a line fault. They seem sensitive to this. You will need to contact TalkTalk and get them to send out BT OpenReach to check the line. They will look for line breaks and repair as appropriate.

The increase and subsequent decrease in speed is probably down to the pacing system they use, they increase the line rate to maximum then throttle it down until error rates become acceptable. If the line is really bad it will go straight down to nearly nothing.

TL:DR you need an engineer to come out to look for breaks and mouldy terminals Wink
