Strange things are happening with the Nigerians. I fear that a "King Rat" has risen up from among their ranks and created a fusion of 419 fundraising and radical Islam as filtered through Boko Haram. In the year 2000 I came up with my "Rough Boy" hypothesis which was as follows:
The Nigerians are going to start kidnapping a lot more. People make money kidnapping in Mexico, well, why wouldn't the Nigerians do it instead of playing little games on the internet? Isn't it pretty cost effective to mail somebody an airline ticket, promise to put them up in an exotic hotel, and then take them hostage if their family is well-to-do?
"Mugu" have been paying their own airfare a long time. Well, if a King Rat Nigerian rose up, wouldn't they find it convenient to take hostages (and brides, for heaven's sake!) by simply sending airline tickets to gullible people? How many scam baiters haven't lusted over the temptation to get the Nigerian 419 to send a little something to make all the baiting worthwhile?
Furthermore, if I thought like a "King Rat" (and the crazy thing is, I think this way) then I'd think like this: I WANT TO LURE THE AMERICANS INTO INVADING NIGERIA. After all, when American troops are on the ground there's all kinds of money circulating in the economy. All kinds of scams to be played. Hostages to be taken. Garbage and sewage to be hauled under contracts. Brothels to be established.
Something is up. I am sensing that something is up and there has been a fundamental, massive shift. |

Armed and trained personnel tend to make for bad potential hostages. Armed personnel used to fighting Islamic militants make for terrible hostages.... partially because they know POW is not a mujihadeen term. What is their term is propaganda videos of a gruesome nature. So most would not be bothered to be caught alive, or most of the US soldiers I know feel this way. They would keep pulling the trigger until they can't pull any more or there is nothing left to shoot at.
As for Boko Haram, they have been at this sort of thing for a while. This just happened to be one of their bigger heists. Now do they scam? It would not shock me as there is a sort of hadji known as cyber mujihadeen. In short they don't strap bombs across their chest to blow up in random crowds, they don't do random kidnappings for various reasons (human trafficking, gruesome propaganda), but they do try to crash 'kafir' (infidel) computer systems and steal their funds.... sometimes even in a manner to fund some rather shady ordeals. In short they are the coward hadji.
Perhaps Boko Haram is doing this large scale, I doubt it though. I would guess most of their money comes through human trafficking (huge Nigerian problem) and then those funds in turn get funneled into arms, munitions, and probably in with some of their AQ friends as they have some ties to AQ apparently.
Nigeria is a nasty place and if I were a soldier I would not want to go there. In my given industry there were some opportunities to go there and I never even entertained the thought. There was no way that, even with the hazard pay, it would have been worth it. Aside from Boko Haram, scams, deplorable living conditions, etc.... I would have had to worry about groups like this trying to take me for ransom. No thank you.
Violence and kidnapping are a very Nigerian thing in some regards. Been going on for years. The only reason you hear about it now is because of the scale at which this one was pulled off. |

Sounds like almost as much fun as Afghanistan.
Dude, I am SOOOOO there. I have already filled something out to volunteer specifically for Nigeria.
Tired. Will write more tomorrow. But I hope our leaders realize this whole thing could be a trap the size of an African nation. And oh, by the way, that nice elderly couple in Georgia? With the man beheaded and the wife missing? It's my hypothesis that could be the new, highly aggressive form of 419.
Does anybody have a connection to that man? Any way to determine if he was involved in scam baiting, even on another forum? Or free range, on his own, no forum? Terrible idea that would be.
