Was interested to know if any movies old or new have ever been made about scamming, like in the tradition sense of emailing, getting reply etc. Or perhaps a documentary about people who have suffered do it happening. I think I recall a story from many years ago where a western man actually flew out to Nigeria to meet the people. |

This short movie came out about five years ago. I believe Nollywood (the Nigerian film industry) may have made a movie or two about 419.
If you want to see a really elaborate sting movie that bases its plot on a 19th century scam check out The Spanish Prisoner (1997). It stars Campbell Scott (son of George C.), Rebecca Pidgeon and Steve Martin playing a heavy. |

I've seen a few short features on this before (well, a popular telephone scam of the same nature where the caller pretends to be related to an often elderly person answering the phone, claims to be in distress, and asks for money), one of which even interviewed someone who did the scam himself.
Everything I've seen on it has been really interesting, though unsubtitled and not in English. |

Not really 419 but The Producers with Zero Mostell and Gene Wilder was fraud centred ... And monumentally funny. |

Hi Tartan, I posted this link in main for someone the other day - you might find it of interest as it tells the story of an American woman who sadly lost over $400,000 as the victim of an inheritance scam.

Catch Me If You Can is well worth a watch. It is a movie based on the early work of a counterfeit check fraud artist named Frank William Abagnale, so a true story.
