I just stumbled across this article myself. Interesting how this started as a text scam, and that's how they reach most victims in India.

It's amazing how much lad's threaten to get people arrested. It's like it's what they fear the most might happen to them, so thinks threatening it to innocent people who are simply calling them out on their scamming will get them just as scared...

^ I somethimes get back to them a couple of weeks after they've threatened to arrest me, and ask if they could please tell me exactly when the arrest will happen, am sick and tyre of waiting.

I wonder what goes through their little minds, as to exactly how they think they might get someone arrested for calling them out on their own crime? Laughing

Edit so as not to double post.

I hadn't read the article when I posted the earlier comment. Actually a pretty interesting read. Sadly the man is out the money for his trip but it doesn't sound like the lads profited from him (yay) and maybe his story will make others aware (double yay). Furthermore, he traveled to the actual BBC office and learned of the scam instead of ending up in some remote place being robbed (or worse) by lads. All in all this didn't end too badly.

It does loudly and clearly point out the need for continuing public education regarding these scams...
