Sounds like he was a victim that got others sucked into the scam with him. Hopefully, he'll think twice the next time he gets an offer that is too good to be true.

Sounds like the "scammer" was a victim who still believed the money would show up, and asked his friends for help. What crime did he commit? *sigh*

So, the victim is jailed? Maybe I didn't read it right, but it said "fellow LDS members". Sounds like he told his friends about an investment and it was indeed a scam. Did the guy who went to jail keep the money for himself, or did he send it to some guy in Nigeria? If he sent it to a guy in Nigeria and wasn't part of the scam, then the wrong person was punished. Nice fellow church friends. They believed in the investment, so why is this guy punished?

I've lost track of the number of vics that we see at SW who have lost everything, and still persist in believing that just one more payment will sort everything out.

Yes he is the victim of a scammer, if he'd stopped at losing his own money, I'd feel more sympathetic, what always amazes me is how others manage to get sucked into the fantasy as well.

There was an accountant a few years ago here, who went through $8.5 million of his clients money, before he was caught.

^^^^ The second article had better information. I thought he just believed it was real and asked others to go in on it. Sounds like he deceived others in order to get their money. Yeah, he believes it's real, but that doesn't excuse what he did to others. It's not much different than what the scammers are doing. I was a bit upset after reading the first article, but after the second article I think it's a fair decision.
