Yep. I'm sure there were nice bits in the pot, but really? That certain grandmother was German. I just wasn't having it. Most jars I've seen do put that warning on the label, usually very prominently. Wink

Never tried kimchee but it sounds like I am missing out. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for it.

Fact-there's a "taster's gene" which means a carrier can taste an additional chemical in certain veggies-broccoli , cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower. I have it and I can't even be in the same room with these cooking. I can eat cole slaw but only vinegar and oil dressing. Pity, it all sounds so good.

Just pulled my latest jar out of the fridge. It has a big red block on the label: "OPEN SLOWLY OVER A SINK. SPILLING MIGHT OCCUR DUE TO NATURAL FERMENTATION."

I've seen some brands with larger warnings, including one that had a thin label glued over the top so you couldn't miss it.

@PF-not the same gene but maybe also a variant? I was was a vegetarian for a number of years and people were always making me broccoli casseroles with the best of motives. Kind of awkward.

It's really too bad because the stuff looks so good and people enjoy it.
